Well I'm new here and can't help but think I'm in over my head just lookin' around. I bought a PS3 without a Blu ray and wanted to add one not knowing about the "marry" thing. Some investigation has indicated that the way to go would be to intall 2.3 for a start and then proceed to the marry attempt but i can't get system update to see an update on the properly setup USB stick Is this because the 2.3 pup is "lower" than the 4.31 that is already installed?

you'll have to downgrade the ps3 to 3.55 if it's downgradable, what's the model number?

Hi, Plenty of places can replace your Blu-Ray...Google it but that won't change your Firmware...On the root of the USB, have a folder (UPPER CASE) PS3...Inside that have another folder UPDATE...Inside that you have the Firmware Update...UPDAT.PUP...SHould see it then...

3.55 huh. Mine's model #cechg01 so I think it is downgradeable That's how I got onto the 2.3 thing in the 1st place. I'll try 3.55.
And thanks to WhichSystem for the reply but that's exactly how I had the USB stick set up ("properly setup") which is why it puzzled the hell outa me when System Setup came back and told me that no valid pup files were found.
I'll keep on pluggin'.
