Angry Instant YLOD on start up, tried everything!

Got hold of a PS3 Slim model CECH - 2003B with a possible YLOD problem!

Striped it down, cleaned it, fitted copper shims and new cpu paste then tried to fire it up but no joy!

Theres around 2 secs when it wants to go then theres a noise from in-and-around the blu-ray drive then the system shuts off. Is it possible that the chips need re-balled or is it the blu-ray drive thats preventing it from firing it up?

Any help is mucho appretiated irregardless of how "Duh!" it maybe, but i'm new to modding/fixing PS3's and have a limited knowledge of 'What's What'.

Cheers Rampipe.

What is the history of the PS3? Do you know what caused the YLOD?

Why do you think it would be the blu ray drive? It should boot fine without one.

To narrow the problem, solder a wire from the nor tristate to a ground point on the mobo.
If the PS3 stays on with no video, no hdd activity, then it is a problem with the flash.

If it still doesn't stay on, most likely it needs to be reballed.

Thank you. When you say flash, do you mean HDD?

No, the flash is the on the Nor chip. If you can solder that wire and keep it on. Then you can dump the contents of the Nor chip (the flash).

the easiest thing to do is first removing the bluray drive, if this dousnt keep the ps3 on, then you can do the tristate thing, but this means you have to take the ps3 apart.

Taking it apart isn't the problem, just need to know where the tristate is on the motherboard and how to dump the flash.

Then after all that, what will i have to do?

Bluray drive making noise and a YLOD when you turn on the system? That's very unfortunate.

Shims put to much pressure on the chips well unless you have a weak connection in the first place

Shims are a prevention, not a cure. I've taken a PS3 slim apart afew times and had to prise some mobos apart and some just lifted off! Suggesting there is a void between heatsink + mobo.
