PC mods on PS3 via 'fake' game update
Hi all,
Recently i'v been desperately trying to add some mods to skyrim on my PS3, a long story short I can't do it... Revelation!!! Everyone's 'jailbreaking' to copy .PKGs and the like to directories kindly inaccessible by the good folks at Sony... Well, what if we had a disc/USB with what the PlayStation thinks is just an add-on by the beautiful Bathesda studios??? Surely new scripts/meshes/textures would then be automatically copied into legit folders within the PS3 with no need to jailbreak... I have the gamebryo lightspeed game engine (skyrims game engine) so, the question is, what would it take to tell Mr PS3 it has a new skyrim expansion to import? I realy hope this made sence... And that it's in the right area, to be honest it could have gone in a lot of places, but here sempt most appropriate. Thanks for reading. |

1, How are you going to sign the modified update/pkg to be installable without legit keys? 2, How could you redirect the update server to look for your hacked content without modding the original game? (maybe through game save hacking, but I doubt the save data contains the update paths.) 3, You cannot instal a PKG without the "install package" option... again only on jailbroken/debug machines. 4, You cannot modify the installed update patches/legit DLC on a legit unjailbroken PS3 even after they are installed legitly, let alone before they are installed. 5, PS3 will not accept a modified (unsigned) disc, and we do not have the keys. If we did we wouldnt need to jailbreak to burn our own backups...

Well, my thought process is this:
Skyrim is made with Gamebryo, as I imagine are all patches and updates. Meaning that making a recognised update wouldn't be out of reach. Though I imagine you're right about some sort of an id telling the PS3 it's legit. So consider we have a skeleton version of the game published via gamebryo (PS3s DO recognise published games as PS3 compatible by design) the skeleton would essentialy only contain empty file hierarchies with the same name and location to be installed as the official game has with the mods in place and an INI file in PS3\UPDATE... The fist thing that the PS3 would see is the instal script, I'm presuming it wont replace game files with blank files, rather merge them, at which point it then comes across the replacement INI that it will 'update' which is where the mods will be referenced. And shazam! PlayStation thought it was installing a new game but got tricked into modifying the existing one. |

Also:
If keys came with publishing tools, we would be golden.

geohot finalize package will encrypt the pkg with the sony key, so, yes, we can resign pkg with the official pkg key (the 4.xx key, is the 3.50 private key)
