Media Sever Streming - Problem.
Hi to all. I'm new in this community and i would like your help since
the most of you are specialists regarding the ps3 system. I have 2 units 2004B and 2503B. Both CFW 4.30 When i'm trying to stream content from my PC with PS3 media server while the connection and everything is showed up on the pc and the XMB shows the shared folders I CAN'T DO anything when i'm entering in showtime. Showtime opens and shows again the shared folders but when i'm trying to stream something mp3 or MKV i get a black screen. Now from the XMB menu i can stream stuff BUT i can't use the Showtime (MovieDB plugins) I installed twonky media server to try it and streams. But when i'm streaming video i have heavy flickering. Any idea how can i fix this ? Using PS3 media server or something else ? Thanks in advance. Last edited by Seaside; 02-18-2013 at 03:44 PM. |

I will try UMS and/or PLEX to see what happens. What do you think better ? a NAS or a PC to have the movies inside and send them. Forgot to say one important thing. I'm trying to stream through WIN 8 Pro WMC Last edited by Seaside; 02-18-2013 at 03:40 PM. |

if you got a good tv, you could also stream directly to the tv itself, instead of to the ps3,
i know that samung tvs have this feature... |

i used to use ps3mediaserver but turned to plex instead.
the web management is awesome and can be accessed by phones/pc's/consoles/roku/appletv etc etc either locally or over the internet managing my media collection (including downloading) from anywhere ftw http://www.plexapp.com/

First of all, try connect your PS3 and Streaming device (PC/NAS/etc) directly together. Remember a crossover/crosspair/twistedpair RJ45 cable is needed, if you connect two devices directly.
Not the standard straight-through cable you use between a device and a switch/router. That way you can rule out if the router is making problems (I assume you are using wired connections, and not trying to stream over wireless... right?). If that didn't work, try another computer(In case you have both a lappy and stationary at your disposal) and test the other one. It might be that some specific firewall settings that are messing up the computer. The same goes with the router, which also has a firewall inside it. Oh, ofc, try also to disable firewall(s)... I doubt it is a problem with the PS3. It's a rather homogenous setup when it comes to that one... I believe its either your machine that stores the video, your router/switch or your transmission between the PS3 and PC. Also, you say that you can see the movie, but it flickers when you use the ps3 media server? On the other hand, no image comes when you use showtime? Bear in mind, when you use the PS3 media server, your computer/NAS does the transcoding and sends the transcoded video to your ps3. In the case of showtime, your twonkymedia server PC/NAS sends the video to the PS3 which transcodes it and plays it. The flickering might thus be explained with the reason that the transcoded video is larger of course than the mediafile, so when your computer does your transcoding and sends the transcoded video, your network cannot keep up with it.... Again... are you doing this over wireless? And how good is your PC/NAS and how big was the video? ************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
But... you have piqued my interest o0 I use Twonky media server atm. :O Got any experience with that, so you can compare it with Plex o0? |

as for plex, oh i think youll like it ![]() think XBMC with global access to your media and management in a web based itunes like interface channel support is cool too, e.g. search for a movie/tv show and it downloads it > loads metadata > updates your database > makes it all pretty. stop watching on one device and load up another device and carry on where you left off anyway just look on youtube or plex forum for everything related to plex media server / plex media centre / plex app

Guys. First of all thank you for your replies. It's nice to see people help each other.
I do not have atm SMART TV around here. And also all the 2012 LG line was f@cked up. Until March or April we are expecting the 2013 line here in Greece. Google TV's and some other stuff. Then i'll buy a new one. Right now i have 2x3TB Seagate HDD's and i'm storing day by day the movies. I used a program called dvd to mkv because everybody told me that MKV is better. Though i would like to keep the in ISO because it's very very boring to make 500+ DVD's to MKV. So what is better ? ISO or MKV ? I'm a bit confused. As for NAS i was thinking QNAP 412 or 419 or Synology., Can they do the job ? Or i'm gonna throw away money ? I do not have the NAS atm i'm testing through my PC to see if it worth the trouble. My modem/router is kinda trash (54Mbps) but i will switch provider in one month hopefully so i will have the option to put any modem i like. N spec at least. The pc i'm trying to stream is Z68-ITX/8GB/2133/i3-3225 Twonky server was the fastest and from all PS3MS and UMS but it's trial and when i was streaming MKV i had serious flickering. PC - modem/router and PS3 console have a 6-7 meter distance between them. EDIT I'm getting error messages DLNA Server error 2104 (with the 2503 console running MM 4.19.07 - showtime 4.31.dirty something) While with the 2004 console (MM 4.19.04 - showtime 4.16 dirty something - while i'm getting messages through MM that new versions are available for both MM and Showtime <-- On this console) i don't get this errors.
