KaKaRoTo Talking About A Way To Downgrade. [Convo]

This is a convorsation about KaKaRoTo talking about a way to downgrade the Ps3 without a Flasher....

To shorten up the typing;

KaKaRoTo = K
His Friend = F

K: So it's easy, you go to service mode. Then oou go to system menu and you do install update. You give whatever PUP you want (even the original 3.41) then it will crash with that red screen of death. Then you use the Lv2diag.self file (the second one) to take the Ps3 out of the service mode. (Not the one actually used to downgrade.) Once it gets out of service mod and reboots, it will boot into the system updater and it will just continue installing the firmware you gave it.

F: Lmao

K: When installing, it unpacks the PUP file, then it reboots into 'update mode'. The 'check if the version is correct' is done during the unpacking, before it even tries to install and since the unpacking is done in service mode, it ignores the check but service mode doesn't have a 'update mode' so when it reboots, it gives that red screen. When you get out of service mode, it boots normally, it sees the 'update flag' so it starts the updater. It finds the update already unpacked.. it assumes it was already check and its valid. So it installs. Elegant isn't it? if you brick it, don't blame me.

F: If it bricks, it's easy to recover anyway.

K: Well, the thing is that the method of recovering is the method of downgrading, lol.
As you see he is saying that if your PS3 is in service mode, it assumes that its a valid update and it installs.

IF YOU TRY THIS, ITS NOT MY FAULT IF YOU BRICK IT!

If you post the source, I'll try it with my PS3, not that I put much stock in this, seems like something people would have found before now.

The only source for this I can find is some quote on some other forum. K has been saying he was working on a new Flash-less jailbreak option, but so far he was unable to get custom code running.

e; Is it even possible to get to service mode from a non-jailbroken PS3? I thought you needed either some dongle or an app for it.
