Yes I thought that was possible as well, but it didn't work. However, I'm not sure if there is already a disc inside or not. So that could be the reason why it didn't boot through that method. Is there a way to check if there is a disc inside the bluray drive?

@Mr.Dutch I have a JTP-001 (1-882-481-21)

@d2damax A quick check to see if a disk is inside is to use something to push back the felt material covering the drive slot. Then you can see by eye if there is a disk in there. If there is, you can open the drive by removing the top metal cover, taking off the magnetic disk and removing the top plastic mechanism cover. These can be left off and you can trigger boot by toggling the arm near the drive entrance.

Wow I am fairly certain I see a disc inside! There is a white cylinder piece at the center of the drive if that is any indication. I am going to find a screw driver that can open it up later! Also will I be able to open the metal cover without removing the bluray drive from the ps3?

I don't know, let us know if it's possible when you try
Don't forget to make a note of where the screws go as you remove them.

Okay, remove the center white disk, remove the 2 screws at the front corners and push the 2 plastic clips at the top as you remove the top plastic cover. Be careful not to break any plastic arms around the disk as you remove it.

Edit: Forgot to mention, after removing the disk you'll want to reset the drive to empty. To do this what I do is remove the bottom cover, then turn the large circular part (bad description but it should be evident when you're looking at it). The laser deck and disk lock will lower.

haha I acutally got the disc out via the method below! kinda..

support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1783/~/remove-stuck-disc

I found a hole under the drive and I used a screw driver to crank that disc out! I tried powering it on by inserting a disc.....BAM! HOLY $*** it WORKS!!

Thanks a lot for helping me power this on!! Now I have to read up on how to apply 3 Musketeers patch!
