7200 rpm hdds getting hotter than 5400 rpm hdds, thats the only disadvantage, but you get faster loading times

Yeah, not sure about the rpm thing. I have just read it is recommended to use 5400 rpm.
Freezing is a sign of the HDD going bad, and not performing correctly, though.

Looks like it might have been the HDD. I replaced it with the 120gb that came with the console which is 5200RPM and nothing appears to be freezing.
Note: Don't buy used 7200RPM Western Digital HDD. ************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* Nevermind just froze again :/ Any ideas? Could it be the ps3 hardware itself? Should I get the GPU reballed maybe? Again, running PSN games, not through multiman; straight from XMB. Last edited by koutarou; 02-18-2013 at 08:11 PM. |

If that doesn't work try option 4. Rebuild database.

Looks like its the same for disc games as well. Threw killzone disc into the ps3 and it froze after about 5 minutes during a cutscene.

Tried the rebuild database and restore file system. Still having freezes.
Purchased the PS3 on eBay. It was a demo mode ps3. The warranty label was still intact and nothing had been touched on the motherboard. It was taken out of demo mode with one of the reverters by tjhooker73. Then was downgraded to 3.55 using E3 Flasher. Followed the guides to the T. Everything else seems to run fine. Just when I run a game or app does it freeze after a period of time (this includes if I leave multiman open for an extended period of time). Temperature are reading 67 degrees Celsius for CPU and 69 for RSX. Again, same issues occurs on three different CFW. Both on PSN games and disc games.
