Changing the thermal compound may help. I had one that would freeze, and when I took it apart, I seen there was burr on the RSX heat plate. I sanded it off and applied artic silver 5. Then it worked great after that.

I'm using arctic silver 5 already. When I downgraded I removed the crappy paste and applied some arctic silver 5.

My temperatures are around 67~70 degrees Celsius. What is the recommended / okay range of heat?

That is about what my slim is at, after playing a game for an hour.

I think when the PS3 gets too hot at 80 degrees Celsius, and will shut off at 90 degrees.

Have you tried a full restore? Option 5 in recovery.

I don't know what else could make it freeze. If it is not the hdd, not the temps, and the file system is not corrupt.

Freezing will occur when the blu ray lens is dirty and starting to go bad. Or when playing discs that are scratched. But you are not having the problem, when just playing discs. So I don't think that would be the problem.

When you put it back together, did you make sure to put all the thermal pads back in place?

Have already tried full restore. Same issue occurring on two different harddrives as well.

Correct, happens on both HDD and disc games.

Yes, everything is where it should be.

Likewise Any additional help or things to try would be a great help. At the moment I'm at a total lose. The only two things I'm thinking are:

1) something is broken on the motherboard.
2) somehow the demo mode is still ****ing with things even though I'm 100% sure it's removed when I used the reverter.

Seems like one moved to the edge of the board and got mushed into two. Also they look a bit dirty so I ordered some new ones. Should have them in the next week or so.

Will post results once everything is in place.

Just throwing this out there, didn't demo units have a timer for playing games? Then reset? Seems like that might still be happening? But something is wrong and instead of resetting just freezing?

I don't know, kinda talking out of my ass here.
