Ok some may hate my opinion but it sure as hell wouldn't be the first time. Also for once I am going to compare the 360 scene to the ps3 scene.
On 360 you can flash a modified firmware to your drives. This allows running a burnt backup to be played and most of the time safely on XBL. In the 360 scene some people have went the route of the ODDE. These users can enjoy the same as a flashed drive without the need for blank discs, modified drive firmware, or special burners (or the c4e burnermax payload). A stack of verbatim discs can run you as high as $80 for a spindle of 50 discs, and that is only for DVDs so imagine the price of BD+Rs. Lets say $100 got me 50 games (of course I had coasters.) I can see why people take the ODDE route. They dont have to worry about burning, coasters, or screwing up a disc. If this device truly supports all PS3 models, and the person is on a firmware that isnt crackable or downgradable, what is wrong with wanting one of these devices? At least with an ODDE all you have to worry about is users on PSN using backups. With PSN and MFW a lot more havoc could be caused. I hate all DRM dongles. I hate True Blue/Cobra, but if this allows slim 3000 and super slim 4000 users to jump on the backup bandwagon, then I really don't see the issue. Everyone capable of running MFW be happy you dont need to look at this device, but IMO leave the 3000 and 4000 users alone if they dont mind paying extreme price and having no homebrew. 80% of this community is in it for backups anyway. I will happily keep MFW, but if I wanted backups, and I had a mtldr2 console, then I would go this route. This is not a MFW, will not be a MFW. Honestly this is probably safer to use on PSN, but keep in mind, Sony could push a FW update, which in turn flashed the BD drive with a new FW itself, making the device useless. People wanting to buy this I respect your decision, just know the risks, and also understand that this will not give you the same functionality as a MFW PS3. If PS4/Orbis is really on the way, I see Sony giving up to us and focusing on the new console. Sad to say, but I think MS has already taken the same view as far as backup only consoles go

Well the idea of this kind of device like the X3KEY is that it can not be detected. It will appeal to people who want to use it online and the ones who can not downgrade their consoles.
The thing which surprises me is that it is so close to be released an yet we have no pictures of the hardware or how it is going to be connected. This leads to doubt many whether this product is a reality or just a marketing hype. For now the verdict is that it is too good to be true. Lets hope we are wrong! So at the moment, the only existing proof that these work, are from models that already run CFW, so if you have CFW, then what's the point of wasting your money on such devices at extortionate prices ? ODDE Devices for the 360 are better looking and cheaper, these people that are creating ODDE devices for the PS3, know that PS3 owners are dumb, so charge a higher price. |

I have the wasabi on my xbox 360 and the amount of updates I got thru on my xbox I am glad I went on the wasabi root I can play online with my originals.and play my back UPS from the harddrive and if Sony can't stop it then in the long run it's worth it so I would say wait it out and see what happens or take a gamble and maybe get screwed |
