Fat32 hard drive beeping

Bought a new WD Elements 1TB hard drive.

It's formated to fat32 with all the games in.

However, when I connect it to the ps3, it keeps beeping and multiman won't detect it. Anyone know why?

I've had a similar problem before its usually because there isn't enough power to the hard drive, try using a shorter cable, also make sure it's connected directly into the ps3's USB port and not through a USB hub or anything like that

That's what I figured, because when I touch the hard drive it starts to pick up speed spinning then beeps and slows down, then same thing again and again.

Can't use a shorter cable because its a propriety wd cable. I could use both usb ports to power the drive, but that would suck because then I can't charge a controller and play at the same time.

Is the My passport any better? Or am I forced to go with a desktop hard drive?

Try a powered USB hub. That might solve your problem, and give you more ports at the same time.

Either use 2 USB connections, or use a powered hub, or connect one of the usb to an USB charger, or give the drive otherwise its 5V it needs.

constant powerup/powerdown is a sign of bad powering of adapterless harddrives and it shorten its lifetime.

Exactly what I have to do.

These were western digital elements and my passport hard drives. So if the powerup power down is a bad sign, I wouldn't suggest those drives to buy.
