check all the heat transfer pads (esp the south bridge one) are still in place
if the south bridge one is missing then usually the fan blows fast right from powering up then shuts off.
it could be that its just shutting off for you and missing out the fan.
but figured i'd mention it as your re-opening to check the dutch er i mean fuse

the other thing will be cracked solder under the nor legs or a compoment missing next to the nor you rough bugger lol

If it aint the fuse and I have been a little rough(as I bought a micrometer for applying pressure to the clip and may have tightened it a little too much) is it repairable??

first i would measure the resistance over the fuse, set the meter to 200 ohm range.

connect the 2 probes to each other to see if it displays 000 or 001 then put the probes on the fuse and see if it's low. (0-1 ohm)

btw, this is with the ps3 cut off from power

if you had the probes like this (red/black dousnt matter)

if you read 0 ohm then the fuse is good, you might want to check the other Fxxxx as well, in case i'm an idiot.

alternative you could try to solder tristate to ground to rule out flash problems, although we both know you did not flashed yet.

Thats one of the first things I tried while waiting for responses. I think @baileyscream has already confirmed my worse fears.

your going to have to get a camera.

but do as mr.fuse has suggested and check all the fuses.

did you notice if the pad was missing off the top of the south bridge?

you can always try to measure if the 12V comes on from the psu or the 3,3V on the nor, it should at least come on for 2 seconds?

EDIT: @baileyscream , i'm working on it, i did not found those probes as objects , but i'm trying to save them now to a more common format..

Mate their are no heatpads for the southbridge and I opened up 1 of my slims which I have never opened until now and same with that. So I'm gonna rule that out. What do you need pics of and I'll take some tomorrow when I have better lighting. I've checked all the fuses now and they all appear fine. Everything else looks in place around the nor chip so I'm guessing you are correct with cracked solder under the nor pins, which I think wouldv'e been caused by turning the micrometer a little to tight. If this is the case, can it be repaired?

good shots of the nor chip
so that we can zoom in and see the legs clearly
so a few shots at different angles

and a fine really fine soldering iron some flux and a steady hand to re-melt the solder if its cracked

then you need to take good pics again of the nor to check there is no solder bridges on the legs

btw it could still be a bad flash.

try putting the tristate to gnd and see if the ps3 halts instead of shutting down
