lol i cant believe you American folk are complaining about the PS3's release price.

When it was released, it was before the recession and American currency was half that of UK, so in US you pad $500 which works at £250, when the PS3 was released in UK, it sold for £420.

Also lets not forget Brazil, who had to pay $1000.
