ive been doing a bit of research and here what i have found (correct me if im wrong)

1. currently only support models CECHAxx to CECHKxx which have PATA bluray drives (according to ps3devwiki)
2. need to have CFW3.55 to get the bluray key to copy on the microsd card.

anything else? any restrictions on region for games or movies etc?

That doesn't make sense. Because all of these CECHH, CECHI, CECHJ, CECHK, CECHL, CECHM, CECHN, CECHO, CECHP, CECHQ , have the same drive.

Source = http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/Bluray_Drive

I was under the impression it was compatible, with any PS3 that has the bd logic board separate from the mobo.
And the newer models would need soldering?

This is what ps3devwiki says
"On early PS3 with PATA Bluray Drive (up to including CECHKxx/DIA-002) a bridgechip is used for SATA<>PATA conversion. "

You don't need to mess with eboots on the newest CFW with mM. I haven't had to mess with an eboot since 3.55. It's still not necessary to mess with eboots without 3k3y on CFW. I guess it's only as difficult as you make it.

What's the point of this "3k3y" From what I understand, you needed to have been on CFW to use it. So why go from CFW, which is free and has more features such as homebrew, to the 3k3y which costs money and is only used for backups/ piracy? I mean unless I am missing something here? If it could be used on a brand new PS3 out of the box I might consider getting one. Since I still have my launch phat that is on its last leg... YLOD every few weeks and I am too afraid to send it off to get a reballed

Off-topic...Crysis 3 is pretty cool on the PC so far now that I've found a crack.
