Questions before buying used ps3
Hey everyone just got my ps3 reballed but wasn't a success and it has reached its life. I found a some ps3s on Craigslist that have cfw but got some questions. No noob here but the ps3 I found has been downgraded from 4.31 to 3.55 then upgraded to 4.30 Rogero with a E3 flasher. I never worked with downgraded consoles and don't know much about them. Are there any things I should look out for? And if I wanted to move to rebug 4.30 would it be as simple as installing the pup or do any precautions need to be taken since its been downgraded? Would appreciate it if I could get some information

If I was going to buy it I would DG to rogero 3.55 3.7 and turn on qa flag and then DG in recovery mode to 3.41. Then I would upgrade to rebug 4.30. This procedure will reset the syscon hashes and help prevent a brick, of course it is possible the current owner has already done this. Also see if he will let you check the temperature of the chips with multiman or iris. And ask when it was DG'd. If he has been running it hot for a long time, You might end up soon needing a reball on this one too.

Take it home, check the back of the console to make sure it can be hacked (all 120GB Slims can be hacked, unless Game Stop swapped hard drives) ![]() Use a downgrading service from someone here on the forums. Trust me, this is all much simpler. But then again, I'm only recommending this method cuz you mentioned Craig's List, which is something I don't like. But hey, if you've had good experiences in the past of buying from Craig's, just ignore my post. Last edited by firepixiedarien; 02-21-2013 at 09:14 PM. |

Ask the seller if the PS3 had any other problems such as overheating or drive issues.
As for buying a used console on GameStop, there's a 7 day return policy and you can't return it if it has been opened because of downgrading. |

He said no problems at all it was only opened for downgrading. The drive doesn't read discs which I'm already aware of, hes selling for $200. I will check the temp with multi man...I would go with the gamestop one but its kind of a hassle to get it downgraded

How are you gonna play backups if it doesn't read discs? Even if you're on CFW, you still need a real PS3 game inside to load your backup games.

No you don't. Some games require it some don't. Multimans new payload enables better discless compatibility, I've had cfw for 2 years. Most games I want have psn versions as well so no problems here

Might also want to make sure if its not console banned or not if you ever plan to play online MAYBE one day.
Thinking about selling mine and I know that will dampen the resale value a little to someone. |

If you do decide to get it, try it out first before handing him the cash. Check the xmb, system information, etc. try inserting a disc into the drive just to see if at least takes in and ejects discs properly. It could just be a laser issue and you can get a replacement for around $30-$40 then fix it yourself
