Are PS3 Slim Mobo's Interchangeable?
CHECH-2501A
I can't figure out the issue with my PS3, so I'm considering swapping the motherboard, assuming it's that simple. Also, any opinion on used motherboards on eBay? I'm assuming they're boards that have been repaired, so I'm weary of their reliability. |

In my experience, the motherboards you find on ebay are a mixed bag. Some good, some bad, some fake. In terms of interchangeability, as long as the motherboard is from the same model and region, it should work. I have not tried other regions or boards, and not messed with varying NAND/NOR setups.

Ummm. Just get a new system or repair the one you got because the mobo is all that's really in the system..

If you have any suggestions, I'm open. It's displaying the following symptons: It turns on, beeps once; solid green light. It does not boot into XMB. Attempting video reset/safe mode has no effect; they do nothing, not even the beeps. It doesn't flash the HDD light at all when turning on. My TV recognizes the PS3 when the PS3 is turned on, but not when the PS3 is off (standby). Before this issue, my TV recognized the PS3 and displayed it in the input list any time it was connected, regardless of the PS3's state. The TV and PS3 can power each other on via HDMI. Discs can be inserted and removed without issue, the blue LED flashes appropriately. Last edited by Doan; 02-26-2013 at 12:43 AM. |

http://community.us.playstation.com/.../td-p/19195118 The only other thing I would try would be to maybe unplug the disc drive/HDD and try to turn it on. If anything works or displays, it's one of those. Me personally, having that much trouble with it, I would ask Sony and see how much to repair, because they would probably do it for much less than anybody else. |

If you replace the motherboard, get one from the same model. CECH-2501A or CECH-2501B, should both work.
The motherboard model you are looking for is JSD-001 or JTP-001. If getting it on ebay, get it from a top rated seller. And at least they have buyer protection. But really, you might save some $ by getting a CECH-2501 A or B, that the blu ray drive does not work. Then swap yours to it, and sell yours for parts. EDIT - @Doan Here is a good deal on a working mobo. That is the model you need.

I have the number for two potential local repair locations, so I may see what they can offer. *Edit* Nope; no change.

What happened before the problem started? Was it dropped or something? Or did it happen from installing firmware, or messing around with files in a file manager? If it is caused from the flash, it may be fixable with a flasher. If it is caused from cracked solder under the GPU or CPU, a reball may fix it. I can fix flash problems cheap. I also know someone, that does reballs for cheap. He is very good also.

It worked flawlessly since the day I bought it, then one day it just wouldn't start up. I'm not sure if reballing would solve the issue. From what I've been reading, it should at least beep when attempting video reset/recovery mode. Mine does absolutely nothing. I hold the power button while turning it on, it beeps once, does nothing for 10 seconds, and then returns to standby. It also seems pretty important that the HDD LED flash when turning on, which mine doesn't. I've read a lot of GLOD stories, and I haven't found one that has these two issues. |
