No need for ILSpy also only .Net Refelector will do it for you
But you still must do some modification to the code and project it self to make a working project from the recovered source code files
You can try it your self and you will see that.
After decompiling process, you must modify any windows form exist to have a working form by extracting any resource from .resource files and rebuild it.
Also some minor modification to source code must be done to have a fully working source code that can be rebuild easily

Not true Brakk3n, I checked and the 3K3y Ripper dumps a 1:1 iso, it even includes a decrypt/encrypt function that will remove Sony's layer of encryption (or re-apply it). I would think this would be a useful feature for the rest of the scene

You don't need to buy the 3K3y ripper HW either, the Ripper will work with any other USB-PATA adapter or if you have PATA on your PC motherboard you could wire it to that. All the info is freely available on the 'net. I guess the convenience of a solderless, easy to use HW with an eject button is worth a few $$$

Because two applications solve the same problem, especially one as simple as the Sony drive authentication procedure, do the same thing _doesn't_ mean one is a copy of the other. it's _just_ possible two independent researchers made the same discoveries and implemented two apps that perform similar functions in the same sequence. There's only one way to perform the necessary handshake and one set of keys you can use to encrypt the messages exchanged.

Gleveland's code only does a small part of the total ripping process, the 3K3y ripper app does the whole enchilada (and decrypts game Eboots & data files to boot). Personally, I'm very happy to have a free tool that does all this & if I ask the dev nicely I can get the sources for nothing

Yes, I know this and have no argument with this and stated in my original post that "their hardware could possible be duplicated." However, right now, to my knowledge, the only way to use the disc backup app or any code from it would be with their device.

another awesome thread that cracks me up! you people are really splitting hairs here... of course the 3k3y team "used other people's work", that's self-evident. it's not like they sat in a vacuum with a ps3 and started from scratch to create their ODDE. isaac newton once said, "if i've seen further than others it's because i stand on the shoulders of giants". all the 3k3y team is doing is taking various breakthroughs from the scene, and building a piece of hardware that makes running games from a USB hard drive "sh!t-simple" for everyone. now you don't have to be a techie spending hours sifting through scene posts and figuring out how to burn CFW while risking bricking and staying off PSN/SEN to run backups of your games. the 3k3y team makes running game backups from a hard drive accessible to "anyone".

btw i don't need the 3k3y, as i'm a software developer by day with 21 years of experience writing code. i'm just sticking up for the noob who isn't a total techie. the 3k3y team's work delivers very well to that audience.
