Maybe you could make a video or find a video of what it does?

No HDD activity would make me think it is something to do with the flash. One way you could narrow the problem down, is to solder a wire from the nor tristate to a gnd point on the the motherboard.

If the PS3 stays on with a solid green light, no video, no hdd activity. Then it is a bad flash.

If it does the same thing, then it is a hardware problem.

Oh, I see. It doesn't shut off by itself. It shuts off the the red standby, from you pressing the button.

How long have you left it on for, before shutting it off?

I bet if you leave it on longer, you will get a screen that says it cannot find the hard drive.

When I power mine on without the hard drive in, it takes awhile before that screen comes up.

It would make more sense. If it was from overheating, it would still have hdd activity. And unless you soldered a wire on the motherboard, to halt the Nor, it wouldn't do that.

I think you need a hdd. Do you have an old laptop hdd, you can try in it?

How long does it take before you get that screen? I've had mine on for about 5 minutes without the HDD, and haven't gotten anything new.

I could test with the drive in my laptop, but if I can't even get the "HDD Missing" screen to come up, I wouldn't think the HDD would be at fault.

*Edit* I tried a known working HDD from my laptop, but nothing changed.

Do the USB ports have power? Plug your phone or usb drive in to see if it lights up.

The symptoms you are having, are exactly the same as the bricks that the early Rogero 4.21 CFW caused.

I wonder if the Nor flash is somehow corrupted.

Only thing I can think of, since usually you would get some kind of hdd activity.

I don't understand how it could just all of a sudden start doing that, though. Usually it would happen from installing a bad system update.

Let me think about it for awhile, and I'll post back if I come up with something.

I had it set to sync trophies/auto-update at 3 am every day, so maybe that. I never knew when it updated until the next time I turned it on, so I can't say with assurance whether it updated or not.

That would make sense. It could of been a bad download and installed it.

If that is the case, then it can be fixed with a hardware flasher.
