I have this light sequence on startup. Quick Green>Quick Yellow>Quick Green>Three Beeps>Flashing Red.

It happened while trying to downgrade with an e3 flasher. I was convinced it wasn't a normal YLOD caused by "overheating" but had it reflowed anyway on the insistence of a friend and sure enough it's still the same.

I'm pretty sure I've got a decent connection between the SBE and tristate. I had been using normal 12 gauge wire but I've just tried with a bit of earphone cable and wire glue and it's still the same

I have a horrible feeling that I had been applying too much pressure on the nor clip (I used probably just under 1cm of card taped over the clip before reassembling). Shouldn't it still stay on if the wire is connected properly though?

Any help is much appreciated.
got the same problem on one of my ps3's. had to replace the hdd cus it was apperently broken :/ and then i flashed the patched pup again and got back to the downgrade step "turn of ps3 and put downgrade dongle in usb"

Make sure you have the wire soldered to the correct points.
Make sure to use between 24 and 30 gauge wire.

If you have all this done correctly, It may be the heat sinks are not seated proper. Try cleaning the old thermal compound and apply new.

Also I had one give me a ylod, from the E3 ribbon being crushed.
Yeah I'm going to strip it down one last time and resolder it again. I've replaced the thermal paste about fifteen times and I'm using earphone wire which should be 24 gauge right?

I think the ribbon cable should be ok, i was very careful when looping it round at the bend and taped it down securely.

I'm starting to get really frustrated with it because I know it's not because of "overheating" as a lot of people are so keen to put it down to and I'm convinced it's fixable!

Thanks for the help and any other ideas are welcome!

It doesn't boot though. It doesn't stay on long enough for it to be a hdd problem. Or am I overlooking something?

have you tried to replace the hdd with another one ? i had to formatt my hdd on my pc like 2-3 times cuz i got an error while installing a cfw with all check when my BT/WIFI board was broken. try changing hdd and reflash a (downgrade) patched pup in flashfun mode (switch 1 up rest down) i dont think its a overheating problem.

if the ps3 stays on when starting it in flash fun mode then there should be no problem with the soldering. I think the tristate on the ps3 mobo just gets ground from the sbe on the flasher but i could be wrong.

I don't think you had the same problem. His PS3 is giving YLOD, and won't stay on for reflashing.

HDD problems don't give YLOD.

Yeah it won't stay on long enough to flash anything though. As soon as I switch it on it gives me that green, yellow, green, three beeps and flashing red sequence and I can't do anything. I don't even have the hdd connected at this stage

How did you get it to stay on long enough to flash it? Did you solder the e3?

Soldered the sbe on e3 to PA0/Tristate point on ps3 mobo. used the small wire in a usb cable

one thing you could check is the fuses on the mobo. i read on ps3devwiki/protection (i think) that if one of the fuses broke (dont remember witch one) the ps3 shuts of.

EDIT : found it : F6002 : Used to protect Q6005 SI489ADY-T1 (if this fuse fails input regulators of +3.3V_MISC wont get power and console shuts down in 2 seconds). Gets feeded by +12V_MAIN Depends on what mobo you have

i know it wont get ylod but i thouht ylod was when it was blinking yellow :/ maby missed something there :P but why does it ylod then, when he both reflowed and replaced the thermal paste ? is reballing the only option then ?

Yeah I've done that (I think!) and it still won't stay on. Should I solder the tristate to ground as well? My soldering skills leave a lot to be desired and I've tried using wire glue this time but I'm having another go at it now so we'll see what happens.

no just solder tristate to sbe on e3. not to ground. as i said. i could be wrong !!

have you soldered it to the tristate ? cus there is more than one solderpoint near the tristate point.
