Bluray Drive Logic Board Issues.

One of my friends recently dropped a broken 60gb phat model ps3 with fw 2.76 into my hands to see what is wrong with it and if it is fixable.

The only thing i found wrong with the ps3 is the bluray drive is broken.(It doesnt accept any games)

I read here that if you have a new drive you can take the old logic board and just replace it on the new drive and you wont have to worry about remarrying the board and system,

To test the old board and make sure nothing is wrong with it. I took the blu ray drive out of an 80gb model phat and did a logic board switch. This test proved worthwhile as the ps3 booted up with the logic board swapped drive and worked fine.

Now here comes the issue. When i went to swap the bluray drive boards back and put the drive back in the 80gb ps3. I found that the drive no longer accepted any game i put into it nor would it eject the game that was in the drive.

I swapped back to the 60 gb ps3 and the drive worked perfectly accepting and reading discs. Whenever i run the drive with the original board. it doesnt read games or accept discs.

Im wondering does swapping board suddenly make one not work? Or is there any solution that i would be able to take to fix it so the original board works again.

Info on the ps3s:
60gb ps3 fw= 2.76 bluray logic board =BMD-001 A3
80gb ps3 fw= 3.55 bluray logic board =BMD-001 A4

I really dont want to have to remarry the 60 gb board to the 80gb ps3 just so that i can play my games.

@marcx , try to swap also the big ribbon cable, and see if this makes any difference.
those cables sometimes get damaged.

@Mr.Dutch

Ive tried swapping the ribbon cables and the power cables and on the older board Bmd-001 A3 from the 60 gb i can eject and accept discs on both ps3s. but neither will accept or eject if i use the other board bmd-001 A4.

I have only the 1 working drive that i can test this on though. the other drive that came with the ps3 is for the most part completely dead. something messed up and it doesnt accept discs. and if i take it apart and put a cd in. it wont read it and cant eject it. although the tray moves up and down and the laser still moves. the disc doesnt spin nor does it eject.

I will try upgrading the older ps3 to 3.15/3.41 to with the original board attached and then try swapping boards to see if still having this issue. if this doesnt work i dont know what to try other than remarrying the bd drive from the 60 gb to my 80 and running games like that till i get a replacement drive then i will have to remarry the new drive to my 80gb ps3 and put the other original drive in the 60 gb ps3 with the logic board that was originally married

Another question does anyone know where a archive of older firmwares are kept. I know alot of the links have been taken down and sony direct links no longer work.

i had an issue with my logic board where the motors were dead, it turned out one tiny part burned so 12V never reached the logic board.

you could try to measure resistance or continuity between the both nr.1 points (12V lne), it should be low.
to verify if you are measuring right test the both nr.2 points. (5V) this one is obvious still ok.

you don't have to take the logic board off to do these testing.

Alright did a continuity test using my dmm on boith boards in each of the designated points. and they are both fine and should receive power But not with the drive neither will board seems to work. and by accident when switching them i snapped the wire to the optical sensor for the working drive. The optical sensor shouldnt affect it taking in or ejecting discs though. and the one from the broken drive was cut when i got it so i cant. use that as a replacement.
I
Any other ideas? im going to see if i can borrow my friends hacked ps3 to see if the board is really the issue or if its the drive.

Edit: My friend has a differnet model 80 gb ps3 with an incompatible board and it is one that doesnt have a obvious to find optical sensor. that i could use either.

I was able to combine the two broken optical sensor cables to make 1 working one which works as when i insert a disc the blue light comes on immediatly once it passes the threshold of the sensor but the one board still doesnt accept any discs with the bmd-001 A4 board attached.the bmd-001 A3 works a lil bit now mainly it only takes discs after i fiddle with it a lil bit.

Also for the boards im getting continuity and resistance measures at .1-.2 for both points on both boards

Are you in the UK? I have a board from a cechc 60gb that I couldn't get to work reliably so scrapped it and have the board left over, willing to donate it for free. The console was on 2.20 ofw if it makes any difference, I did get the console to play a game once till it yloded forever so I know the bmdmoard is ok

Wish i was in the UK but sadly im overseas east coast USA. Im in the process of ordering a new optical drive/wire since i kinda TOK'd the wire of the working one i have.
I did splice together two of the wires together and i know the wire works as whenever i stick a disc in just a lil bit the blue light starts blinking immediately.

So until the new optical drive cable/board comes i have 1 drive that supposed to be working and two boards that should work but aren't and two optical boards that both recognize the discs but it still doesn't get pulled in.

Although if i am still having issues with the board I wouldn't mind paying to have your board shipped my direction though.
