Satellite and cable companys can barely send a 1080p signal most are 720p 1080i only a few channels in true HD now like pay per view movies no need for this intill the others catch up. No content to watch whats the point

Not selling enough tv's?
 Make a new standard resolution! What a nice gimick, how long after the dwindling sales of 4k series before hey release 8K or higher?<-----Not buying any television again. Give me holograms damn it.

well i guess im lucky in the fact that i physically can not see any visible difference between 720p and higher videos. even xvid is perfectly fine for me

Most of us are already watching 4k content anyway, just not in its native resolution.
All content sold on any medium is compressed from original source to what that medium can hold. VHS, Betamax, LaserDisc, VCD, DVD, HD-DVD, BluRay etc. all comes from the same source with some "digital" touching up but you can never go higher than the resolution the source was filmed at. You will only get raw content with the master, anything else is compressed. |

I read that soon h265 will be out, and it'll be awesome. Probably a 4k movie will be the same GB than a nowadays 1080p movie.
