Hello I'm new to this forum but not to the modding scene I've done mods on all systems and platform but this one incident kinda blew my mind.

I was up dating an old 60gb backward compatible to rebug 4.30 so I followed the guilds online to QA Flag the system, shut-down and booted in to recover menu for update. System to reboot in to update screen and prompts to press PS button and it immediately start to update which was kinda odd from other system I done in the pass.

So the update completes and the system reboot and don't see the Rebug logo i see the PS3 logo at the start screen i check under the game on the dash and multiman, package-folder, etc. was still there but when i access multiman it said i should up firmware I then check the firmware on the machine and it's OFW ver.3.21 I then shutdown and restarted and ver.3.21 was still there.

I took a break to try to figure-out what i did to get a downgrade to happen and the only answer I could come to is it must have read it from the Red Dead Revolver I had in the Blue-Ray drive, so I tried recreate the downgrade with another fat system firmware ver.3.66 with no luck.

Has any one else successfuly downgraded there system this way or is this a fluke

Yeah, it's because the disc was in the drive. Try it again without the disc.

Never try to downgrade or updating with a game on the bluray drive, because simple the console will update by the disk and not from the usb stick.

What u have done is q a downgrade its normal to happen if u the pup is a lower fw, next time take the disc out cos if u had a higher fw game in the drive u would of updated to a higher fw, lucky u had a low fw game,

how the hell it downgraded????!!!! you've just discovered a way for downgrade lol....

Ok U say that the only reason the downgrade happen was the QA flag and that this can't happen on OFW system?

yes and as far as i know if we had then new qa token then we wouldn't need a hardware flasher ,

it can happen on 3.55 and below if the ps3 qa flag. as far as i know if we had then new qa token then we wouldn't need a hardware flasher for 3.56+
