I have a Toshiba 1 tb passport that I use and I have it formatted to the default settings that the fat32formatter used and it only half ass works. I am on current Mm and sometimes when loading MM it will cause the light to keep flashing and not show up. I can unplug it then plug it back and sometimes it will work, but after playing the game for a short bit it will stop working. Btw, I am using just the 3.0 USB cable. Any suggestions?

Could be!

WD idle/sleep disable tool:

http://support.wdc.com/product/downl...id=154&lang=en

Before using this disable tool, you should check your hdd with this:

http://hiyohiyo.s181.coreserver.jp/C...o5_4_0a-en.exe

1. Run CrystalDiskInfo on pc.
2. Connect your HDD.
3. Select "Function" tab.
4. Select "Advanced Feature" > "AAM/APM Control".
5. It will open a new window, select your HDD.
6. Check your Advanced Power Management (APM) settings.

If it shows a 80h value or higher you do not have a sleepy drive.
If it shows a value inferior to 80h you have a sleepy drive and you should use the disable tool and then re-check your value with CrystalDiskInfo.

If you get "Drive Update Not Applicable" when you run the disable tool, that's ok, the APM will still have been fixed.

Works on most WD drives.

Hope this helps.

Could it be possible the drive is knackered? (one of mine does this having worked fine for 3 years) If not you could try find the manufacturers tool to adjust the drive going to sleep, or try find a generic tool to work on your drive... I am unsure what the problem might be

I hope that isn't the case as I just bought it the other day. I will check into the manufactures tool for it though. Thanks.

That is strange, because I used the USB 3.0 cable with that allocation size, and it was epic fail (not enough power as it kept powering up and down I could feel it).

Do you have a ps3 slim? I think the slim ports do not draw as much power.

At least you have it working now!! 😎
Tried both actually. I tried another USB 3.0 cable, same thing!

Thankfully it works now, but it's still annoying when you don't know why exactly you know?

Yeah that's not good. In my case, i formatted it to fat32 and simply changed allocation size and used the dual powered usb cables. That worked.

The amount of google searching I did was insane lol.

I found out what it was that was causing my problems. It was the USB 3.0 cord that was included with the drive......it is utterless crap. I switched it out for a microUSB cable and everything is working flawlessly now.

Hopefully this can help someone else that comes across having this issue.

I do want to thank you @DEFAULTDNB for your help though.

if you check PS3 wiki, on the same slim models, different CECH series may also means different proc architecture and power consumption. For example my CECH 2003A draws more power than 25XX series (the latest jailbreakable series) which caused my to curse myself for not confirming it before I bought my PS3 from the so-called "trusted" store.

http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/SKU_Models

Maybe I am not reading it correctly, but where on the wiki does it specify that the USB power is altered because of the power consumption?
