It is really sad and unfortunate that PS4 will not play PS3 Titles. They could easily solve it by having a expansion port in the back of the system. Like how game consoles had expansion port in the old days. They could make a device with call "PS3 Backwards Compatibility Module". User will plugin this device into the expansion port. This device contains Cell processer and all the required hardware need to run PS3 Titles in PS4. All the saves, game install, updates are stored in local HDD.

This is why they'll offer all ps1,ps2 and ps3 games in their Gakai service. I doubt you'll need to buy the ps3 games again.

It'll be an authentication system where you insert the disc and validates the disc to which then it will let you download the game. The reason is it would need to convert it to x86 as ps3 games are natively written on Power-PC (or PPC)

It still sucks as you would need to constantly stream games through the cloud. I don't think cloud gaming is ready yet. ISP's and their download data caps along with the fact not many are for "always online" media.

... do you really believe sony will do that? cause I think I'd sooner grope one of my cousins than sony go out of their way to NOT sell us the same game yet again.

Is anyone really that surprised? This is sony we r talkin about. I wont get a ps4 for a few years if then. What i dont get is why not at least make the ps4 play ps2 outa the box without having to rebuy the game. Oh ya its sony. Only time will tell when cloud gaming can be used to break security and they remove it. So many mistakes. SONY= S**t On New sYstem.

To be fair, I think the PS4 could probably emulate PS1 & PS2 discs. If it doesn't atleast emulate PS1 there should be uproar. I think a system of that caliber should easily be able to emulate PS2. But it's pretty clear they want to make money from the PS2 library digitally.

And that ****ing sucks.

I'll still probably buy a PS4 over a 720 though.

Don't count on the 'ported' PS3 games to be free, all you can hope for is a validation system so you can play the PS3 games for free through gaikai (but who knows, maybe they'll turn gaikai into a netflix for games, so you pay a monthly fee and can play any of the old games in their collection)..

Yes it's because of the CELL architecture (but also don't count on your xbox360 games to run on the xbox720 as they are too different architectures), but saying the CELL is a piece of $h1t architecture is BS, yes difficult to grasp at the beginning, but definitly not a piece of #h1t..

Since even today's midrange PC's can run PS2 games (through the PS2CX emulator) it certainly would run on the PS4, but as you clearly state, they propably want to make money on the PS2 PSNstore games.. I too certainly hope it will support PS1 and PS2 games natively (without gaikai) and with enhanced visuals (just like the regular PC emulators do), but I don't count on it..

No, they said it (propably) won't support (SUPER)AUDIO CD's, that certainly doesn't mean it won't support the datatypes.. Also this is something that I just don't understand, the drive does support it, why not just support it in the OS, it's not like they need to pay any licensefee's as they own (together with Philips) the patents....
