"Backwards compatibility" is in our daily lives. It is just there. You are using it everyday. It has become a 2nd nature and transparent. I can quote you many example. Here are few. 1. Bed - Accommodates various size of people 2. Phone - Various networks 3. TV - Various Signal 4. Network - Various Standards 5. Flower Pot - Various plants // Imagine a pot won't accept a plant just because it is an old plant. It is stupid and ridiculous. 6. Dinner Plate - Various food. 7. Cables- Various sockets 8. House - You move in to your new home, imagine the house won't accept all your old stuff. It is stupid and ridiculous. 9. Many more.... Things don't last for ever. When you buy a new product, the old stuff still need to work. At least must provide a payable hardware option (R&D cost is covered.). Read @stuck? 's post. Code:

The ps4 will do ps3 games hardcore over the cloud. Just pay a small flee for each game you know. Oh yeah, you need to buy the games too. But hey, maybe you want them again even if you got the disc for ps3.

As you might gather, backwards compatibility was never "that" important to me, but the talks of them working to get all games to work did make me consider putting away my ps2 a few months into owning a ps3; afterall, it's not like I like clutter under my TV. A part of me believed that I wouldn't need a PC, nor any other consoles under my TV once I got the ps3, but when I saw the reality of the situation... well the fact that there is an HTPC, a Wii, a PS3, and until recently a PS2 (didn't need the ps1 with the ps2) pretty much says it all. To me the most memorable thing that sony did this gen was break promises, pull bait & switch, bully people that didn't deserve it... and it's a shame when you consider some of the great games. I've talked to a few guys that makes me think their brain's console equivalent would be an atari 2600... just saying. Last edited by malex; 03-06-2013 at 11:37 PM. |

yesterday some one point that already are ps3 emulators working in PC. Some of them playing without problems SOny exclusives (the ones that are more Cell dedicated)
PS4 have a x86 architecture, so, if some guys can do it with free time, why can´t sony? Money thats why. The same old factor. Sony want that eveyone pays a fee to use Gaikai retrocompatibility feature. Shame on you, shame on you Sony! |

A couple of DDOS attacks on Gaikai / cloud gaming making it impossible for millions to play would make $ony drop the idea like a person who just bought a pie filled with GregoryRasputin's vomit.
DDOS will give us freedom. |

What utter BOLLOCKS.
Sony never made a mess of CELL. Just LOOK what has been achieved by SONY and you can see CELL was a success. Over 70+ units sold(and counting) says PS3 is a Success. in CELL has also been a SUCCESS, as it has uses out side just GAMES CONSOLES. CELL is used TV's(TOSBIBA), SERVERS(IBM), PC GRAPHIC ACCELERATOR CARDS(TOSHIBA), HOPITAL IMAGING MACHINES, MILTARY DEFENSE SYSTEMS, SUPERCOMPUTERS etc. Devs this gen(or in general) are getting LAZY, anyone with a decent brain could write good code for CELL. Like anything 'YOU PUT TIME INTO IT AND REEP THE REWARDS'. CELL certainly 'SHOWS UP THE SLOPPY CODERS'. You only have to look at some of the games made for PS3, that 'SOME DEVS SHOULD GIVE UP THER DAY JOB'. |

Have you actually tried those emulators? because as far as I know it's complete BS and are propably nothing more than simple frontends for trojans.. I think there is one emulator but it hardly runs homebrew and I even think it runs very slow on a highend.. but if you think otherwise, please show us some links to emulators that do work according to you...

@gingerbread @ki69 is right, Sony do have a patent for emulation of the PS2 via an add on/expansion, they filed it in 2008 http://www.ps3hax.net/2009/06/patent...bility-on-ps3/ http://www.google.com/patents?id=dIT...Engine&f=false |

Trust me the bed, tv, phone, house, etc will be here long after anyone gives a crap about some lame backwards compatibility BS on the PS4. Look at the Sega Genesis, it could play Master system games because it happened to use a z80 for sound. Then the Saturn comes out. No backwards. Then Dreamcast, can't play Saturn. In the long run did it matter? No. Does anyone care at all anymore? No.
