you dont want to buy anything untill you find out the lowest firmware your ps3 will go to.
the lowest is 3.56 that you need it to say or lower

you need to try minfirmware checker or @DEFAULTDNB tool (see my sig)

then you will know if your console will downgrade

ps if its a super slim then forget it
also if the label on the ps3 says CECH-3*** then forget it

anything else then try the above checks.
