out of interest, what is the MAXIMUM downgradable firmware for the PS3 atm ? I have a genuine copy of Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch which wants me to upgrade to the 4.25 FW before I can play it. I was thinking of maybe downgrading the PS3 first then upgrade to the relevant CFW before playing it if 4.25 isn't downgradable.

The lowest ofw that can install cfw is 3.55 if you are above 3.55 then you need to downgrade via a hardware flasher .....I'm going rather crazy today...

I have a CECH-2510A w/ OFW 4.25 also.. I just installed a 1Tb drive and have done my fair share of reading and looking through Youtube. I understand the confusion with so many different opinions. I think the OP was just wanting something like I am.. A professional opinion on my situation. Since not all ps3s are created equal and not all equally hackable. As I am not new to the hacking scene and have hacked, DSS, PSP, DS/3DS, hotspots, routers, turbo broadband hack, pc game hacking and Ipods.

So please in my situation would there be any advice for me.. Like if I need a hardware flasher? What model or site should I buy it from? I was on Youtube and a guy claims a software flash from 4.25 to 3.55 but Im not ready to jump until I feel pretty confident of what I am doing.. Lots of reading ahead of me.. Thankyou for any help if given..

Isn't everything on youtube true???? You need a flasher bud, like E3 or progskeet. And lots of reading, just like you said.

Well at least you posted your model number, so well done for that. 2500 series ps3 can or cannot be downgraded. You need to check with the devwiki of click on @DEFAULTDNB 's SIG to make sure its below 3.56. If it is you are good to go with an e3 flasher as the ps3 is a nor model.

you cannot downgrade your ps3.
its as simple as that.

you can downgrade via hardware flasher from 4.31 ofw (the latest firmware)

at the moment it all depends on the model of yor ps3
no super slims (CECH-4***)or CECH-3*** models can be downgraded

all slims up to CECH-2*** can be downgraded BUT ONLY SOME CECH-25** can be downgraded
all phat consoles can be downgraded

then look at his question again. he wants to know the highest firmware he can downgrade FROM
not the highest hackable firmware

i know how easy it is to miss read when tensions are high
