PS3 repair in UK

Ok, so my hdmi port is buggered on my slim. I would fix it but I wouldnt know where to start and what to do.

Im also aware this might not be in the correct forum category. It's a request for information so I thought the help section would be best.

Does anyone know any good reputable repair persons. I would obviously prefer if they didnt update my machine to OFW, or anyone on the forum who do repairs? I know @Sarah1331 and @keano do downgrades.

Thanks.

Always start with the simple fixes.

First try a different HDMI cable, or if you don't have a spare swap the ends around of the one you have.

If that doesn't help, try unplugging your TV for a bit then when you plug it back in and start your PS3, hold the power button down until the 2nd beep.

Failing that, I know mushymods lists repairs for video output and port problems.

I've tried different cables, and when I apply some downward pressure while the hdmi is plugged in, it displays fine. When i let go, some sections of the screen have a blue tinge to it.

Thanks for the mushymods listing. I think I might open it up and have a look. Might just be a loose connection I can solder back into place or something.

something more simple first!

have you tried to clean the port? internal & external?

else

Either a pin inside the hdmi port on the main board has warn down or there's a cold joint somewhere on the main board in that area..

my guess is the pin on the inside of the hdmi port. Has it been abused in the sense that its been plugged and unplugged alot? or knocked? stepped on maybe?

get a magi glass or really good lighting (torch) and have a look inside the rear hdmi port for corrosion on the pins or wear and tear also while your their get a small pair of pliers and gently move the inside connector up and down left and right trying not to cause dmg. if theres exsessive movement chances are its cracked inside where u cannot see

if this is the prob you'll want decent solder skills and a replacement part not sure if these can be picked up or if you'll have to grab a spares/repairs and de-solder either way you'll want decent solder skills and some patients.

also if you open the console up and slowly de-assemble untill you get a clear view of the hdmi port have a look around the board for any corrosion/shorts often looks white or burnt looking and obvioously have a check for cracks on the port ect to follow up on the above.

other than that ps3fix.co.uk are london based ive had a few conversations with them and their quiet reasonable if you explain what you need ect

(as to not advertise other ps3 fixing services are available and i am in no way affiliated with the above site just had a few convo's regarding diffrent matters that have arising with various ps3's)

@ray0 thank you some good tips there. I'll try some of the things you mentioned this evening.

Thanks everyone for the help, hopefully I can get this sorted.
