Do I need to be on higher firmware to use 1tb HDD?

One of my friends said I need to be on like firmware 4.11 to use a 1tb internal HDD. My system has official firmware 3.50 on it. I assume its bogus and can simply pop in the HDD and itll format it with no issues. Just wondering because I would never update it past 3.55.

And IF you had to be on 4.11 (maybe the firmware is what allows biggers HDDs) then would simply using CFW 4.30 or similar work?

Thanks for that.

Another question. I have the Cobra USB dongle. I plan on installing Cobra CFW 4.30. Should I install right from this OS, or should I upgrade to ofw 3.55

OFW 3.55 > CFW 3.55 > Enable QA > make NOR/NAND dump (for safety reasons) > 4.30 CFW

QA flag is easy, use rebug toggle: http://rebug.me/

I have never bothered dump my NOR, I skip that step, but if you want to you can make a dump through mM:

To dump NAND/NOR: mmOS->Select any file->Open in HEX viewer->[SELECT]->[START]->DUMP LV2(NO)->DUMP LV1(NO)->DUMP FLASH(YES)

Also I concur: your friend is full of sh!t.

Enabling QA is as easy as downloading Rebug's toggle_qa.pkg, installing it, running Toggle QA from XMB, PS3 will beep 3 times and return to XMB. (If you do not hear the beeps it has not worked)

NOTE: Every now and then it will hang on the lv1 patching stage. If it has not beeped and returned to the XMB after about 30secs you will need to reboot and try again.

Regarding the NOR/NAND dump, as @DEFAULTDNB said, it's optional.

Can you explain briefly what QA Flagging is or what benefits it brings? I didn't really follow the scene much since early 2012

@YamiJustin QA flagging generates a token and sets a flag on your PS3.

Its not essential but its useful for things like software downgrading (from CFW to OFW or CFW) and kind of like - sony tester unlock of functions... anyway: http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/QA_Flagging

I would recommend doing it, so in future you never have to go back to 3.55 to get it.

Once its set: its set fo' life dawg

Sounds sweet :D

Since I'm at it, I have 3 more questions!

1). Does it matter which type of 3.55 CFW I am on when I use that QA Flag enabler pkg?

2). Afterwards, can I simply install Cobra CFW 4.30 over it? (Their website does not offer their 3.55 cfw download pup anymore)

3). Does anyone know if I can install Other OS/Linux on Cobra CFW 4.30?

Thanks a bunch. I ordered x2 low firm systems and they are in the mail. It'll be a fun week xD
