When you hook up the CHip ODDE you dont need the drive in your ps3 anymore..
Bc i got the 3K3Y..i took out my drive to put in the computer..and my 3K3Y still works

you need to have the drive key off it and thats it. i know on the 3k3y you have to extract the key and save it on a micro sd card and put it on the board they give you before you use it. as of right now cobra hasn't released anything that supports all of the features on their site. and 3k3y only works on phats right not. they say they are going to be releasing something for slim models in the near future. they hold off on their release for 2-3 months so i wouldn't be surprised if it would be a couple months before they release a device for the slim. as for 3k/4k models both of them say they are working on it so to me that means neither of them have nothing but want to try to keep everyone happy.

So is the drive required to get the key though?

My interpretation was that the ODE would send a "challenge" to EID4 to get the keys as the "response" without needing the original drive in the first place.

well it isn't false advertising if they say they are working on it. they could be working on it and have something or nothing or they are lieing threw their teeth and indeed is false advertising.

If you preorder one, and it comes out and DOESN'T do that: it was falsely advertised.

I personally think they have nothing.

We know E3 has something with their glitcher chip but they stated it wasnt /consistently/ successful at getting any keys (or something to this effect) so they havent touted it as much,

I think cobra retaliated with words they cant live up to.
