500GB 4001C Super Slim Freezes when online?

I just recently got a used super slim PS3. Model #4001C.

It works great, and tested out playing games offline. After hours of testing, I decided to sign up for PSN and kill some Zombies.

Now this is when the problem started. I made a new email, and signed up for PSN. Everything was successful, so I figure they didn't ban my ip address. (My CFW console is console banned)

But now when I try to play a game it freezes, and after a few will go to a black screen, beep 3 times and shut off. Or I have to hold the power to shut it off.

When I turn it back on it asks to send an error message to Sony. After the error message is sent, it then says the console was not turned off correctly, checks for corruption, etc...

Then it does the same thing if I try to play a game again.

So I disable internet is settings.
With the internet disabled everything works great again. I can play offline for as long as I want.

My first thoughts was the HDD was corrupted. So I did a full format in my PC, and the drive works fine connected to my laptop.
Reinstalled the hdd to the ps3, and everything works fine. Until I connect the internet.

This is baffling me. I was hoping maybe somebody had the same issue, and a fix?
I have already tried Option 5. Restore the PS3, from the recovery menu.

I can't imagine any kind of ban from Sony (be it console or account) would cause a console to be shut off like that. Generally, it just wouldn't sign in and you'd get an error message. Try connecting it online using a network cable then wifi and see if either one works. If so, you may have a hardware fault.

Strange thing. So I use a network cable, and it was working great. Was able to play online BO2, with no freezing. But I get an error, when trying to sign in to the Playstation Store.
Code:
EAUTHFAIL 0x80010017 Failure in authorizing SELF. Program authentication fail
It is the same error you get when trying to open multiMAN on OFW. Or playing a game that needs a higher firmware.

So, I then tested without the network cable. I was able to play online with BO2. No freezing. But still get that error when trying to open the Playstation store.

So I reinstalled OFW 4.31. Had an error trying to reinstall it. But finally got it installed. And still get the same error.

I am leaning towards maybe the hard drive is going bad.

Thanks for the replies.

I know you might of tried this but, did you go into safe mode to check your files?

Or did you happen to install the new psn store?

I have tried rebuild database and restore ps3, from the recovery menu.

It doesn't ask me to install the new psn store, like it should. And I can't install it myself, being on OFW.

I'll try Option 3 in recovery. Maybe that will help.

If you suspect it's the hard drive, do a back up and connect it to a PC and run a diagnostic on it to be sure. This will obviously cause the PS3 to format the drive when you reconnect it, and it might just sort out the problem if it's not hard drive failing.

Delete the Playstation store by pressing triangle on it.
I think its a Hardware problem due to the fact that it has to do with the network.
Or its a bad Firmware installation.
Download the 4.31 update and update from the Recovery menu.
