About emulation of PS3 or even Xbox360 is a long rocky road.
Besides i doubt someone will involve in some project like that hence is too much effort and possible no recognition at all if that happens. It's a waste (for me) hence you will face tons of problems every time you want load an .ISO. It's not the same emulation vs the real deal. But still i want all my retail games to be on PS4 like @stuck? stated. I don't want to buy everything again because they want that **** this way or that way. They can allow BC but they are way too ****ing clouded with some product that it's not finished. I can understand that part, the part that they are still working on PS4 hardware, etc. But their policies again or their ways are always the same ****. I can also understand that kind of methods on steam that i have my games to download the ones i purchased. Even if i don't have my rig and im upgrading part of it, the game is still there when i have all my pc in shape to run some i can download them how many times i want there's no restriction. But on sony's side?...when i not even ONCE i used PSN to buy something...sucks really. Or im too bad adapting to this new digital era, even with music (i have my vinyls, cds, etc) or something is changing for worst.

Actually as a matter of fact, they are 100% capable of doing it via software (Dynamic recompilation) + hardware device solution. BUT they won't do it as they are a diabolical company. There are many unknown factors for streaming on PS4. 1. Is the save data stored on your system or on server. If it is on server, world is doomed. 2. Is there a CACHE system? 3. When users are playing the stream, will it be 100% CACHE on system? Or only partial? 4. If there is CACHE system, will it be encrypted? I am sure it will be. PS4's HDD will have another propitiatory super encrypted format. I believe this time round, system updates must only be done via online. You can't use USB. |

And dynamic recompile isn't always the way to go, too many problems with that and needing to know the insides of the engines.. if all it does is recompile some ASM from x86 to CELL you'll end up with a slow running games.. |

I understand some aspect of software development. It is no easy. So, not all engines are as versatile as Unreal Engine? Bottom Line : I strongly believe sony could do it via software + hardware. But they chose not to. |

Backwards compatibility is one of the real benefits of pc gaming, there are no generations, it just works. However if you go back to far you may run into some issues but even those can be surmounted easily.

It might be something Sony's doing just so they can release a backwards-compatible model in the future for a higher price.

If you know sony, they don't add features. They remove them.

This.
I have no problem at all with Sony wanting to keep costs down etc. but what it comes down to is just pure greed just like how it was when they removed PS2 backwards compatiblity and you just knew several years down the line they would release them on the store so you would have to buy the games you already owned. Sony were losing almost $250 on each 60gb PS3 when they first launched so fine, I understand as a company you need to reduce your losses. How about this though? Release a stripped down, more cost-effective model for people who want to buy a PS4 for just being...a PS4 but then also have another SKU that is for the more hardcore PlayStation fan that has BC for legacy consoles and charge a higher price? If the PS4 launches at £400 but they have another dedicated unit also available that plays PS1, PS2, PS3 AND PS4 games out-of-the-box, then I would gladly pay an extra £100-200 for this. Unfortunetly, I am not Sony.
