one of the hard drives in my pc does that sometimes, especially if i'm defragging or doing a virus scan on it, I think it does mean its dying but the one on my pc has been doing it for a good 18 months.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's probably just the metal inside the PS3 expanding due to higher temperatures (heater on?). Give it a little time to cool and check back with us.
If it's slightly noticeable, I'd just leave it be. Try and keep it on it's side for better air flow. |

usually when it has a problem reading a sector. personally i prefer all my drives in best condition as i dont want to lose data so if i were you id try and spinrite it. its a great app that does a low level scan on the disc for errors and general maintainence, i havent tried it with my ps3 hdd but it shouldn't do it any harm as it doesnt play with the filing system just fixes any problems that in notices with the sectors

If the clicking gets worse then it is about to die, the clicking usually gets worse over time as a warning. I would back up your data just to be safe, but my PS3 has been clicking on and off for 4 months and it still hasn't died yet.
