Unable to play ANY games, including PSN?
Ok, I have tried looking for a solution first, but have unable to come up with anything. My problem is, I just recently (yesterday) received a PS3 in perfect condition off of ebay. It had one problem I was aware of before purchase, that the lens does not work, and I am fully prepared to fix that. However, while waiting for my replacement lens to arrive, I decided to test the remainder of the PS3 features (ya know, to make sure the seller wasn't lying).
Up to getting internet, sound, video, etc. to work I decided to try downloading a demo to play and test (not having used a PS3 before). I managed to download and install one, boot it up, only to have the system freeze at a black screen. At this point I tried shutting it off by pressing the power button in the front, only to hear two beeps, and after about 30 seconds it returns to standby mode (red light). Now, what I want to know is, what the hell am I doing wrong?! I have tried restoring the PS3 twice now to no success and have tried multiple demos and even paid for a PS1 game which I just sent off to my PSP after it didn't work on the PS3 (works fine on the PSP though, of course). Just so you guys know, I cannot afford to get it fixed, as the buyer described in the listing it has no warranty. If you guys can explain the problem I am facing, words would no be able to express how happy I would be! ![]() Thanks in advance, Chris |

The problem is caused by an unreadable drive board. This means the drive firmware is unreadable for some reason. It could just be a loose cable or the drive board may be dead. Check the connections from the drive daughterboard to the motherboard and make sure everything looks right. Just make sure you don't update or you will be stuck in a semi-bricked state.

Thank you very much for your fast reply! I checked it out, the connections seemed fine, however, it is VERY noticeable that a previous owner screwed with it. I believe the drive board is dead, and I'm really too cheap to buy an entire new drive, just isn't worth it, I'm just to cheap (:thefinger: Sony and their expensive parts
[jk])! Ight, I'll just use it for parts I guess! Thanks again bro! |

Even if you did replace the full drive, the drive daughterboard is keyed with the motherboard and is impossible to replace. Sony is the only one with tools to replace the drive board.

I have the same problem because I have removed the BD Drive (w/ the the controller) and I want to send it for repair. But I want to know if I can only put the board w/o the drive to start a PKG
