PS3 is around 2 years old now, right? Yet it`s still not hacked, I`m pretty impressed. How many more year left, I wonder? LOL.

If I was that rich, I`d of have made an official contest for PS3 hacking. Someone hack it fully, create a OFW for it and they`ll get whooping $500,000. I can imagine that it would motivate a lot of people to attempt ...

Actually, there was a PS3 contest. I forget the link, but I remember the prize was just a PS3. When you change something in the contest`s PS3, and you`ll get the PS3 for free. Nobody have done it successfully, I`m guessing because the prize wasn`t enough ...

If you want to be VERY cruel, then create a legitimate looking website for the following contest with a prize of non-existent $500k. I`m pretty sure that would fool a hell lot of people.

$500.000 is out of the question but $10,000 is possible. If we could set up some kinda donation site that the entire PS3 hacking scene could donate too, I'm sure we could make enough money to offer as a prize to one who successfully finds some sort of hack... Even a hardware mod... Anything at this point lol

There's only one problem with your guys' theory. If you notice, anyone who has any time in the past contributed to console hacking (PSP, etc...) has done so on their on free will and completely unselfishly. Generally, the most qualified for something like this is going to be someone who does it for the hobby of it, to satisfy a personal curiosity and then share it with people. Anyone that would do it strictly for the money/prize, is going to give you a half-assed BS job, and never be able to give us capabilities anywhere near what we see on the PSP these days. Have faith in the people that are already involved in the scene. There's alot of talent involved in the PS3 scene, and it just takes time (like anything worth doing right does).

PS3 was more expensive to buy which caused certain individuals not to bothered. I'm pretty sure that they were aware about the security of PS3 being so strong when compared to 360 and Wii. Amongst other problems as well, such as expensive Blu-Ray burners, discs, the amount of PS3 games' data, etc. Not exactly a good motivation, right? So they've decided not to give it a go. Sure, most of people have tried hacking PS3 but they will eventually give up. Been 2 years already. That's a quite fine record there!

Regarding PSP, well, its security was obviously weaker, much cheaper and one of the best portable consoles around. That gave them a better motivation to start with, that's why.

Of course, creating a hacking contest for PS3 may sound lame but it sure might give people a better motivation to analyze PS3 more.

If PS3 contests are out of the question, then what should give us better motivation to analyze PS3 more?

Those would be the people to decide whether or not the job is half-assed BS

We wouldn't just give the money away, it would have to be looked at by many so that more then 1 person knows about this/that/whatever and can develop and continue with the idea in the future.

If that makes sense :S

old bump is old

and sony would have to forget a dongle in a refurbished ps3 like they forgot a pandora battery in a refurbished psp, for us to get a dongle or we could just go steal one from the place that fixes the ps3s (anyone know where that is?) Also yes dev ps3's have hdd access and all that stuff, i think im not 100% sure.
