in ubuntu, do you have the latest update? apt-get update? maybe your ubuntu lacks some functions. Try opensuse, or other linux base.

(PSP USB at PSN Store downloads)

this means sniffing the psp usb while its connected to the pc side store, not the store on ps3 !

thats indeed not possible as so far i know the psp doesnt support usb debugging.

from ps3 side it may be possible on lower firmwares via java im not sure.
@StreeskaterFU is this like packet sniffing?

Hi,
Yes, you could use this, except the PSN store doesn't work under Linux, does it? Under Windows, just use "usb snoopy" or any of the other software-based sniffers. Usbmon is no different from USB snoopy in terms of basic functionality.

I do have a hardware USB traffic logger, and yes it is useful for figuring out protocols. Which one do you want to know? Most have already been figured out. There is nothing special about PS3->PSP communication; it's just USB Mass Storage with a few added SCSI opcodes.

What is this kind of news?

It's useless! There are oceans of Linux tools doing the exact same thing, it has nothing to do with the PS3 whatsoever!

aw, Yes there are oceans of Linux tools, there is even a packet sniffing tool to log all sorts of network activities. But this is really different. I can say that this can lead to further analysis. If you use the available linux tools you can like take ages to configure it to log hardware devices, and most of that it can take very long time until you can find one similar to this. I mean sniff specific device ports.

This is a tool for the ps3, and this can also be reconfigured to fit other devices as well if the source of this program does that. besides this is no news this is a release. hehe Be cool my friend it takes time.

PS3<->Controller communication when updating.

Side note; I might be able to obtain the rest of the Sony software for the JIG. That leak is ideal for finally get them out of their denial.

(I work at a service centre, tried numerous times to obtain the software but Sony kept saying it didn't existed (got 4 re routes to people's chef's). Makes it pretty obvious.)

For one, edit last post, dont make a new one
Second of all, Of course PS3 Store doesnt work under Linux, but when it tries to find the PS3, since some things are still running under PS3 flash, it kinda does try to find it.
Second, if you know so much about this, why dont YOU build something that works to your liking. Again, I dont see you working on anything, like most of the past people have said to me.

Btw, has anyone thought of wiring a device in the PS3's USB ports that log all the data in/out, mess up the consoles firmware (if thats possible) and send the console to repairs and hope for the best? I mean, handy guy could open the system and keep the warranty seal intact, right? I don't think the people doing the repairs check the consoles screws etc too much when the system has a software problem. Just a thought.

They always send refurbished units back. The service center photo's online are clone centers the PS3's original Encryption data gets copied over to the new unit so further data remains the same. And yes they use CEX/DEX software for this that's the reason for the USB cable.
