The PS3 only supports FAT 32 on external drives

Copy files to PC, reformat drive as FAT 32 and copy files back. Any files over 4GB will have to be split or if it is video you may want to re-encode it.

As keytor69 said you will need to use an external formatting app.

I personally use Fat32Formatter, a small quick easy to use app.

Ps3 will not see NTFS It needs to be Fat32
You will need a utility to format extended fat32 as windows only formats upto 40gb.

Might be something to do with fat32 having a max filesize of 4gb.
