Bypass PS3 FW Update (Firmwares 2.30+)!

This is great news for anyone who wants to stay on a lower firmware yet still be able to connect online on the PS3. Spanish hacker Bakke has found out a way to connect to PSN on lower firmwares, this method works on PS3s starting from FW 2.30+. You can continue to play Home, browse and download files from PS Store and play online as if your PS3 was running on latest update. The tutorial is very simple and once again requires the use of PS3Proxy Server. It is recommended to stay on lower firmware updates as long as possible and not to update to latest firmware for various reasons.

You can view the translated English tutorial here.

This is not new.

I've been using the proxy method on and off now for over a year, its never stopped working.
At least not for me.

Still good though, I heard that game sharing could be blocked via the latest update:

It's not true some people actually have more than 1 PS3, blocking game sharing wouldn't allow them to download their own games

Does this method bypass the Game Data (patches) requirement as well? For example, you sign on PSN, put a disc in PS3 and then you'll get a message from PSN telling you to update your game (download/install patch). Quite similar to the FW update thing. So, will this method bypass that?

To my knowledge you can just start the game, while in gameplay sign on to PSN and continue playing.

Unless you mean online play?

That won't work, the PS3 checks for updates once signed in

NeoSabin, both offline and online games are applied. However, for offline elements, you can still play them without any patch. When you pop in a disc, you cancel out the 'New patch notification' and then it will automatically sign you out of PSN and after that, you'll be prompted to the game as normal.

For games that have online elements, apparently, just pop in a disc... it will exit the game automatically when you cancel out the 'new patch notification'. The only way to get around that is to disconnect your Internet. If you sign on PSN during the game, the notification message will show up. But, if you cancel that out, you will be back to the game as normal, even though you cannot play with any online element unless you have the patch installed.

Note- the online elements I've mentioned above are based on Killzone 2.

Actually, with Killzone 2, if you leave the game on BEFORE the PSN have dispatched a new patch for that game, you will be able to play the game without the new patch as long as you don't exit the game. Even if you sign out and sign in PSN while the game is still in memory, it will work as well. The only way to get the update for that game is to exit the game and load it up again.

I know this from experience, it's exactly how I have managed to play with the ranked bots AFTER the patch came out. There were times that my connection was acting cranky, which kept me disconnected out of PSN for a few times. But when I sign on, I didn't get any patch notification.

I'm not sure what exactly caused this, perhaps it's just a minor fault in the Killzone 2 software. Or perhaps PSN doesn't have a specific check implemented-- that if you're online in a game WHILE a new patch for that game has just came out == you will be disconnected and then prompted to the update notification. Or there actually is a check but that only applies when you pop a disc in WHILE your PSN is logged on.
