hi all,
now whilst i don't possess any of the skills necessary, i was wondering if it was possible to add bluray playback to something like simple media player (sms)? my reason for asking is as far as i understand, the region protection on the bluray drive in the ps3 is purely software based. thus if we built a player that supported all regions, or just ignored region checks, we'd have region free bluray playback. would be nice to hear from you all if this is possible/has been done/would be worth someone's time to look into. thanks all~ -kdp

It won't work really much (No experience so just my opinion...) because PS2 supports SD only and then you have to have CFW and then... You need a graphics card that could handle the blu ray player...

sorry, you may have misunderstood me. what i meant was to use the ps3's capability to boot ps2 elf files (using swap magic) and use either an already existing media player software (such as sms - which supported accessing files from the dvd drive) or writing our own one to access the bluray drive. i would've thought, based on the fact that any software once loaded into the hypervisor remains there until exited, you could access the blu ray drive from that and read media data.
i wanted to do all of this on a ps3, not on my ps2. any thoughts anyone?
