Hello everyone? Been lurking here for a while now, and it seems I can't really find the answer to my question.

So, recently I acquired a downgraded ps3 running kmeaw 3.55 cfw. Works great, haven't had any major problems as of yet (except for a resigning issue with my old saves, but that's a different story).

Now, I keep hearing all this talk about how great 4.21, 4.30, and 4.31 cfws are and I've been wondering; What are the perks of upgrading my cfw?

tl;dr What makes having a 4.21,4.30, and 4.31 cfw better than having a 3.55 cfw?

Well the obvious reason is not having to wait for a 3.55 fix for games with higher firmware.
Beside that I think the new ps2 classics hd versions don´t work?..not sure about that.
other than that the only thing I can think of would be any new features sony implemented on the higher firmwares.

edit.
of course before you could also use PSN, which I think is a reason alot of people updated, but that´s gone for now.

PS2 Classics HD do work on 4.xx CFW, I played Hitman Trilogy HD fine.

There's no point in staying on 3.55, just upgrade to Rebug 4.30.1 from XMB by doing the following:

Enable QA (or make sure it's enabled) > Update multiMAN to latest version and make a NOR/NAND dump > Remove any original game disk from the drive > Install Rebug 4.30.1

You can make your own fixes using '' Dark e-boot fixer '' an '' 99.99 spoof '' ( or CMP Auto tools, one of the apps Duplex use's ) If you wanted to sign in you could use '' SEN Enabler/Disabler '' on 3.55,( god knows why you'd want to as many have been banned for using psn on cfw ) Also you can play any ps2 game by going into FSM (factory sevice mode)(on any ps3 not just backwards compatable). If you update to 4.31 then like you say resigning is a pain, you wont be able to use CU Cheats database by Octoxr an Gingerbread wich only works on 3.55, plus if you wanna go back you have to own a E3 card reader.....All for the sake of being lazy cos you dont wanna make your own fixes ? personaly I get a buzz out of making my own patches, pkg's an fixes 3.55 Rules.......

You don't need a hardware flasher to downgrade from 4.xx CFW. Downgrading from 4.xx CFW is very easy.

downgrading from a higher CFW is as simple as 3 steps...
1st step----> REBUG_3.55.3_999_DGR_PS3UPDAT.PUP
2nd step---> REBUG_3.55.3_REX_PS3UPDAT.PUP
3rd step---> Any CFW you want

It's even easier if you are on Rebug 4.xx and QA is enabled:
1st step----> REBUG_3.55.x REX
2nd step---> Any 3.55 CFW you want (optional)
