I have been on 3.55 Kmwea since May 2011 on my slim PS3. Last October upgraded to Rogero 4.2. Everything has been running great, all games work good. That was until today my 8 year old brother in law comes over to my house while I am away and decides he want to play some games without me around. He freaking updates the system to OFW 4.31. Now I have been searching the internet for the last 2 hours but am coming across all kinds of what appears to be erroneous info.

So what am I to do to get back on 4.2? Can I just reinstall the update I have on my USB, do I need another update? or am I screwed. seen something about an E3 flasher but not sure it applies in this situation. Assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

That sucks. You need a hardware flasher. Yes, e3 flasher will work.

Or you can have someone do it for you. It would be cheaper and easier.

Depending on what country you live in, some users offer this service. Me included.

Yup, you MUST use a flasher. No way around it, good luck

Wow...... What a bummer. Does flashing wipe All data as well including saves? And what kinds of skills do you need for flashing? And how much is e3? Thanks for continued assistance

Soldering skills, just in case.
Yes, unless you do some backup (long time im not using flashers).
Check modchipcentral or any website like that.

Don't buy LIMITED edition!!

If its saves you're worried about, back them up when possible. Also, remember to in the future block updating. Block GAME update, SYSTEM update, etc. I would recommend staying off the net for good (cant update if you don't have a connection) but to each his own. Also remember that games like Dead Space 3 are signed for OFW 4.31 and as such have the update.

I can do downgrades without formatting the HDD. With METHOD1 in Chapter 2 of my guide below.
