Old PS3 Controller, New Problems
Hello all, this is a request for advice from more of the seasoned Hardware Technicians out there who have experience dealing with the boards of DS3 Controllers for the PS3. I have a controller, came with my PS3, had it for about 2 years now. I use it with both my PS3 and my PC, but recently it's gone wonky and has become unusable. Basically, when I have it hooked up to my PC to examine button responses, the Analogs aren't recognized for movement at all, and the DPAD triggers input to the computer that is identified as the analog sticks. The face buttons (X,O,Tri,Square) when pressed also input commands for Start, etc. etc.
So, today I called Sony, assuming they had some refurb program in place similar to the PS3's where you could send in your busted controller, pay a little cash, and they'd send you a refurbed one. I was wrong. So, I have a controller, out of warranty, and I'd love to take a crack at fixing it myself or sending it to someone else to repair/refurbish it. I can take any advice I'm given, if you'd recommend a repair guide, cool, if you think I should sell/scrap it for parts, understood, but if there's anyway I can salvage it and continue to use it, I'd be pleased. Let me know what you all think. |

The analogs aren't recognized by computer or ps3?? Try getting a pin and hitting that reset button in the back and sync your controller and test it out

I already have. It's not necessarily that they aren't recognized, just that they are conflicting with other commands being sent out by the board. I've already hit the reset button multiple times, and the controller is now completely disassembled. I'm sure that there's some sort of a short or misfire if you will, I just don't know if it's fixable or....well....f***ed.

There is a flat cable with copper terminations that needs to match with his exact position in the board
This flat cable contains all the tracks fron frontall buttons (but not the sticks) So you have the connection between the board and this flat cable displaced... or... You have the "controller chip" crazy To reset the controller chip, there is a hole in the back of the dualshock 3, insert a clip there, all the leds will blink severall times, and the controller will reset to factory defaults You need to sincronize it with the console after this with an USB cable, like usuall ---------------------------- Or if is a shortcut.... use a toothbrush + alcohol to clean all the board Last edited by sandungas; 02-19-2012 at 03:43 PM. |
