PSN Terms of Service changed, only 3 activations allowed
Bad news for all traders and users with multiple PS3s, SCE have changed their Terms of Service to allow only up to 3 PS3s on one account. Traders beware, you can only share games on up to three PS3s now, users with share groups will also be affected. Users with >3 systems activated should be safe, however if one system is deactivated, it can no longer be activated again. Quote from the TOS: In-game items or content that you have purchased may be downloaded from PlayStation®Store. Pursuant to the particular terms of use that govern a specific in-game item or content you have purchased, you may use that item or content on up to three (3) different PlayStation®3 systems that have been activated for your account. You may deactivate or activate specific PlayStation®3 systems, as long as the maximum activated number of PlayStation®3 systems for your account at any given time is three (3).This means that, if a game is purchased, it can only be downloaded once every 24h, meaning games can't be shared immediately. Do you think Sony have finally put an end to sharing? Have your thoughts on the forums. Source Tip by madshaun1984 |

Well that's down right stupid. If this is true I might have lost my account (in a sense). I deactivated my ps3 because he showed sign of dieing and then it got the ylod. Ive traded my four activations already, so does this mean that I won't be able to get the activation back??

If Sony wanted to stop gamesharing altogether they would just implement a once per 24 hour policy such as what they have on Warhawk.

Sony are starting to get really petty now. It's pathetic, and I'm seriously beginning to dislike their services. I'm not just referring to the above changes in the TOS either by the way - I had an incident with my PS3 recently (that I won't go into detail about, because I'm lazy) and their customer service was useless. Plus this whole favouritism thing they do with beta codes where they're only available to certain countries is becoming a joke! It makes me feel as if they don't appreciate us long time, committed fans from other countries anymore

Question:
Is this just SCEE TOS? The only reason I'm asking is because I looked over the TOS on the US site and there is no mention of the (3) playstation 3 activation limit. The only mention of limiting in the US TOS was 3 psp activations. US Terms Of Service.

"The first category, called Network Content, can only be accessed by one activated PlayStation®3 system per day and only by the account through which the Network Content was purchased. Network Content cannot be used on two different PlayStation®3 systems within a twenty-four (24) hour period." "The second category, called Local Content, once installed on a PlayStation®3 system by the account that purchased it, can be accessed by other accounts on that same PlayStation®3 system." The full page can be seen here http://uk.playstation.com/legal/deta...e-Usage-Terms/ If you read between the lines, sony are implying that games stored on a ps3 hdd, can only be accessed by other accounts on that "same" console. so if they detect that it has been accessed by 2 different consoles at the same time (ie: on the account/console that purchased the content, and another console/account that has had the data saved to it) there is a chance they could ban one or both the consoles/accounts. Im not saying that this is what sony are planning to do, just warning people that its a possibility, now that the t&c's have been changed. Only time will tell. |
