I bet everyone that's playing online on PSN and also looks forward to a possible CFW or something that's homebrew enabling, are a bit concerned about whether our accounts will be banned from PSN or not.
As of now when 3.21 came out, i have started to use the LG5 Proxy tool since i'm not very keen on updating to 3.21 just in case Geohot comes up with something. LG5 works like a charm and i can connect just as if i were on the latest FW. Now, if we were to have a CFW, speaking hypothetically, do you guys think that it would work the same way, using a proxy to fool PSN that we're using the latest official FW? I could go with that actually. Only connecting to PSN when i wanna play a bought game online or downloading something from PS Store. I will not do any piracy on the PS3, mainly cuz i love my collection of original games and also because of the Blu-Ray still being really expensive, making it much more worth it to buy the real game. I'm only in it for the emulators and homebrew games. I'm still dreaming of a fully functional Dreamcast emulator running in true 1080P. That would be something for Shenmue. :D So what's your take on this guys? Do you think we would be fairly safe from the banhammer even though we would use CFW? |

I think the cfw is just a modified version of 3.21 with changed bootflags. I don't think sony can actually see the differents between the cfw and the official. But if they can, I'll go for the proxy.

Yeah i thought about something like that myself. I mean, we can still connect to PSN with our CFW psp's right? Now i'm talking about a real HEN CFW, not just a modified FW to make Other OS still enabled. But anyhow, we should be safe using a proxy right? Since the proxy is telling the server that the PS3 that connects has the latest official firmware.

I think it's different. The PS3 just think it's "up-to-date", because you replace the ps3-updatelist.txt with an old one (where it somehow is indepent from the written FW-No.
eg. "# EU Dest=85;CompatibleSystemSoftwareVersion=5.1500-; Dest=85;ImageVersion=0000948f;SystemSoftwareVersion=5.1500;CDN=http://deu01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/image/eu/2009_1210_54ee80e14e479f8351a988eb9a472072/PS3UPDAT.PUP;CDN_Timeout=30;" works as well as "# EU Dest=85;CompatibleSystemSoftwareVersion=3.1500-; Dest=85;ImageVersion=0000948f;SystemSoftwareVersion=3.1500;CDN=http://deu01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/image/eu/2009_1210_54ee80e14e479f8351a988eb9a472072/PS3UPDAT.PUP;CDN_Timeout=30;" ) And from what I can see, the PSN don't check the version on the PS3. But maybe I'm wrong. I'm just new into it.
