Like a version.txt which simply tricks the console into saying ur whatever firmware in the world. Maybe he did not implement something like this but its possible.

Also, i do not think you can make you mac adress ff:ff:ff:ff:ff without a hack so who knows what kind of "goodies" he could have put in.

If you can change 1 thing why not change just a few more is what im asking here.
Most likely changed the MAC address using OtherOS and the hardware hack.

Regardless of what will happen your going to come to a point where people will have to decide if they want PSN or homebrew. True there will be times where there will be methods available to enjoy both features (PSN and homebrew) at once, but in my opinion it will only be a limited time, and it will always run the risk of a PSN ban (if Sony ever decides to take this route).

A good example of this is what is happening in the 360 community, its always a cat and mouse chase, some people try to sneak on to Live, some get banned, others just stay away.

For this case, if you want OtherOS don't upgrade, will it be patched in future? Maybe.

It all boils down to do you want PSN/online play or homebrew?

ultimately it would only take another total revamp of the psn like a protocol change to render psproxy obsolete on older versions till someone cracks a version with the latest playstation store working. The biggest issue to bypass is going to be games that require specific firmware versions to run. New versions can have a new authentication check in the firmware which newer games require and were **** outta luck. The decision will likely not be just homebrew vs psn... but homebrew vs psn and any newer game.

definitely a step forward but i won't be updating to this CFW for a couple reasons.. the main reason is obviously that there's no added features, and the second is waiting to see how this turns out for people who use CFW...nobody really knows if sony can detect modded firmware, but i would say there's a great chance in the future they will. think i'm gonna wait a month or so to find out.

Like Geohot said before, these are just software switches. All he had done is stopped that "switch" from being flipped off with the new firmware.

So what of the units that have updated already? I thought it was possible to use the recovery menu and install firmware that way? If that is the case, wouldn't we just be able to install 3.21 cfw overtop of 3.21 ofw via recovery menu?

Well I need to read better. It says you must be on 3.15 or lower.

Why bother updating if 3.15 and 3.21 end up being the same damn thing?
Now thats the right idea. Why would you update if you can still get the benefits of 3.21 on 3.15 BY NOT UPDATING??? DONT RELEASE THIS CFW UNTIL THEY PATCH THE PROXY OR UNTIL THEY PATCH YOUR UPDATE PROCESS. Save it for something important. not this "update".

Sony can't patch the proxy, but they could force updates in games.

Im sorry to contradict you pirate but that hopefully wont be the case as far as the decission between Psn/homebrew

Im sure both will be manageable and it really depends how careful you are. I dont think that psn actually scans your ps3 for anything and there are no server sided checks either as far as i can tell. Also with the PSN ban i think the ban is inside the HDD so i think we will have access by this time so we could just change our consoles id number i may be wrong and speaking crap because you probably no better then me or i may be right who knows time will tell i guess
