Right now I have the following hooked together:
a ps3 slim
a avr xplain demo board (on the large side, about the size of an index card)

and a usb hub in the other port with:
a western digital passport 1tb external storage unit (fat32 of course)
thumbdrive for easy app loading
and the controller charging cable

I have a new clear case coming in the mail (should be here tomorrow)
I was wondering if theres such a thing as a plastic box thats intended for the ps3 to sit on and store stuff? I googled and couldn't really find anything that fits the bill, vertical stands mostly...

I did notice that while the slim does have some rounded bits, it does have a square footprint on the bottom. I guess it would be a matter of creating a custom sized box out of acrylic or the like and fastening them together...

Any advice on where to get supplies/parts and building would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same setup as u buddy

As for a stand I've been looking myself. There was one for the fat ps3 which held a 3.5" hdd but nothing for the slim.
The xplain I just made a plexiglass case for.
If you do discover something nice, drop us a pic or 2 on here if you would.

Have not seen a box like you are describing.

If I were to attempt to make such a box, I would use this stuff instead of plexiglass...but it is not transparent, so it might not appeal to you:

One similar for slims would be nice.
Unfortunately though it would require internally nodding the console due to the hdd placement.

If I make a mock stand out of mdf I could make a carbon fibre one.
Perks of my job as long as nobody sees.

I just need to stop being lazy I suppose.
