To update, or not to update: that is the question...
Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The airstrikes and killstreaks of online gaming,
Or to take arms against SCEA....

Here is the thing. No one here whining and crying would turn down the money. No one here did anything close to what this dude has done. What the scene has neglected to realize is one thing. The PS3 has a built in .iso loader. If you can download games from PSN and play them from the hard drive then the key to it all is the damn hard drive!!!!!!! Figure out the file system!!!! or encryption. Winhiip 1.76 sees it with a PS2? buy the hard drive type.:thefinger:

its just logical to that sony would have lost money playing cat and mouse so they set a mouse trap to catch that pesky varmint once an fer all.
Now I have a question for you. Would you employ someone who abuses your products. For example if you own a company and your manufacturing rubbers. Then you hear from an old lady that someone shot him with a sling-shot and a sling-shot was built from the rubber you manufacture. Would you employ the guy? Cause I don't think so.

This would encourage more people to hack systems to get a job. I also don't think that your new colleges would respect you or your boss when they find out how you got this job. You made a fool out of them and then you expect to get a job offer? Think again...

What these companies usually do is the following:
a.) They start off nicely and ask you to stop.
b.) They try to intimidate you (suing you, for example)
c.) They find a way to shut you down. There are many legal ways to get someone out of the picture.

If someone hacked something I had done and I thought it was "hack-proof", I would hire the guy so that he could try to find exploits before the public does so I could close the holes before they were even discovered.

Hackers usually get security related jobs because thats their hobby and they usually are the ones who knows security best and how to keep others out.

This is quite disappointing... Seems that Geohot really, really cared for his ego, and not having it fed up enough, he decided to leave. Because, if he was a true hacker... If he was doing it out of a hobby and joy, he would see the things to an end. Anyway, the PS3 was just too hard for him or there are some bigger things we don't see here. Either way, it was funny how he said he misses the times the systems were hard to break. PS3 is hard as hell, yet he gave up. He was the reason we lost OtherOS and now he runs away? I don't care even if he does break the PS3, someone should break his legs. OK, OK, on a serious side, I had my hopes for this guy, and all he left behind is a bitter taste of loosing. Was it a war or just a single battle... who knows. Seems I just don't care anymore.

GeoHot hasn't acted in any other way, than any of you would, if it was you that had achieved access to the hypervisor. Just think of all the hype that has been generated over fakes by fakers.. And when this guy actually does achieve something, and posts proof of it, you all get very impatient and want more and more and more. That's why he is leaving the scene. Not because he wasn't able to achieve results, but because he is sick of all the requests and constantly flaming by pathetic jealous losers, that almost demands something released by him.
He gave us his best shot, but instead of being grateful for his time spent, we all complain. That is not very motivating for any hacker. HACKERS CONSTANTLY TRY AND FAIL! This doesn't mean that they shouldn't try! GET USED TO IT!

The only things GeoHot did for the scene, were good things -make us all learn a lot more about the pc3 architecture. That he decides to leave the scene before planned, is of course sad. We had all got our hopes up, and all hoped for a release soon. BUT it is HIS choice to leave, and only his choice. He doesn't owe us anything. Sony had been trying to remove OtherOs for some time. They just needed a real reason to do it. That would have come sooner or later anyway - whether you like it or not.
Also the OtherOs function worked crap anyway, the real reason you are all mad, is because you just wanted the feature, to try and make piracy possible.

So thank you GeoHot, for everything. And if nothing ever comes out of your work, thanks for the effort. And good luck in the future, with any other projects you might have in the works. Whether they have got to do with system circumventing or not - it doesn't matter to me. I respect you.

sorry for my german post but my english is bad

He has done great work without asking. it is sad he is gone. should, however, there are others still have their chance. and in my German post it was only a presumption.

Linux didn't have RSX access, and was slow as hell. So no... it was crap, almost useless at the time being. Any PC, even old PC, would be way better.
