I guess you just lack the fantasy to understand my analogy. Okay then let's add two variables then and make it a little bit more complicated. What if the guy who used your rubber to make a sling-shot writes a guide on how to make sling-shots out of your product and allow masses to abuse your products (if we go back to the PS3 then D/L an ISO LOADER, jailbreak (not that you need any of)). Then you hear from one of your investors (let's say $ony's shareholder) that people use your rubbers to build sling-shots and shoot other people. Discouraging your investor in investing in your factory.
This guy has already caused you a lot of trouble. Would you employ him?

If you didn't understand a word from that. Then let's put it this way: Giant corporations like $ony don't give a damn about how talented you are, if you get into their way. They make you step aside. They have their own employees to deal with this problem and those employees probably don't want to get fired cause of a kid. Nor do the shareholders want to hear about this. The investors only care about money and when they hear that $ony offered a job to Geohot or any other hacker who made them loose money. That would be bad for $ony, making them loose more money.

But this is nothing compared to the fact that if it wasn't this way then they would probably encourage people to hack their systems (and not just to hack it, but making money out of the hack) and allow anyone to make a fool out of them. If you don't believe me then be my guessed and try it out. See if you would get a job this way.

Sorry guys but i think that reason why he quit is
1) Playstation 3
2) iOS 4
He hacked-up older iPhone OSs without problem because the security in older iOSs was really weak but now iOS 4 and Playstation is out of his league..thats why he quit...

Who cares, if he want's to stop then thats up to him.

The people who need linux on the ps3 the most are the places that are running clusters and don't need to update anyway cos they don't go on PSN or play games.

Linux on PS3 for most average users is **** and your better off with a PC anyway. Most people are moaning because they think removing linux also removes the ability to possibly play copied games in the future.

I've not updated as i've no need to at this time, i only play wangan midnight at the moment but when GT5 comes out i will be updating no matter what.

It's always the same people don't get recognised for what they have done, people just complain about what they haven't done. Nobody forces you to update so quit whining and be patient. Sony removed the otheros feature, not geohot so if you wanna complain write them a letter and stop buying thier products.

And about the browser. Why would you want to browse under OtherOS, when it doesn't run optimal?
