i can look into getting scummvm working via swapmagic as long as you dont update.

Im surprised at you two, English probably isnt the guys first language, that wouldnt excuse the lack of punctuation, but spelling mistakes are excusable, its not easy trying to type in a language that isnt yours.

Your PS3 must have had serious problems, regarding its functionality, Linux on the PS3 was slow, but not to the extent you refer it.

You say GeoHots "hack" wasnt huge, he did more than any other "hacker" out there, only a ps3snews, mentality would think that it is nothing much

Sony was slowly getting rid of the Other Os function, long before GeoHot messed with the console, the Other OS removal is not GeoHots fault.

Only problem is, I have an 80GB (EU) version which doesn't have PS2 functionality.. But as long as I don't update, I still can play ScummVM and some emulators through YDL, but I can't play any new games (I won Blur in a contest, but I can't play it as it requires 3.21 or up grrr) or any bluray that has a newer protection..

agreed but you can always just type in your native language and use google or bable fish and firefox's built in spell checker instead of trying to write in a foreign language..

so i apologize for gliitch and myself.

i was just guessing he was from the UK as his name is Leeuk.. my bad.

its obvious that everyone is blaming geohot for a lot of things Sony have done because of geohots ps3 hackery. so sony are just closing all the doors, i.e. otherOS removal, blocking usb to SM.

damm thats pants , all ps2 homebrew is not hard to get working with SM on the ps3 just need the ps3 drivers embedding in the .ELF , i've only started to learn how to code, with the help from others on here..

lol have you tried using Google translate, its a pain in the bottom, though Firefox's spell check is awesome.
I think the guy is from the Middle East or Asia, though im not 100% sure.

Im not sure about the blocking of USB to SM is all together true, in that link you posted, the guy that was saying it didn't work, realized it was because he was using an older version of Swap Magic.

As regarding GeoHot, i think he deserves all the respect for doing what he actually did, he did what many other devs couldn't do, i how ever thinks a lot of respect is lost, due to his inability to talk to his "followers" on his progress.

my bad again , still this could do with confirming by everyone on here who has updated and using swapmagic via usb and what version of swapmagic thats being blocked.

ditto, i cant begin to imagine how hard it is to do or put that kinda stuff down for others to understand, if he just stayed quiet until it was a true noobish software exploit that everyone could do/use , no matter how long it would take I'm sure the scene could have gave him the time, but as you have already said he should have done his research before posting anything and then not posting until its usable/unblockable but then on the other hand he's given the people that do understand a fresh look and some more info on the ps3..

i just want a easy way for you guys to run homebrew so i just hope he's gone underground and not stopped.

@ SuperDre
i added scummvm to the ps2 apps list if you or anybody else is interested,
http://www.haxnetwork.net/showthread.php?t=11666
i know you cant run it

Also, as I mentioned earlier, people only started to get to know how to use the CELL better, because it's hard (especially without real guideance) to understand how to correctly code for the CELL.. Also one of the reasons why some coders weren't really up to speed, is because they are very much windows based, and the only SDK out for the CELL is crappy linux based, which makes it harder for someone who is used to SDK's working immediatly in their IDE to get the grips with the SDK itself..

But who cares how many people actually were using OtherOS, there were people using it, and they paid for OtherOS, and Sony just unnessecarely removed it (because hackers can still use it and find a way to circumvent OtherOS completely, which ofcourse is what a lot of people want)..
Personally I don't care about ISO's, I think the games are cheap enough (I can wait until the price it right for me (which is up to 15 euro's including postage, and even then it must be very special, otherwise I won't spend more than 10 euro's), also with illegal games you tend to have less interest in the game anyway.. The only reason why I'm looking forward to is for real homebrew stuff like emulators/scummvm (which btw ran perfectly under YDL)
what you forget tho is that sony was already phasing out otheros with the slim, if a dev wants a cell to work with they would buy a phat ps3 with otheros and not update its not like sony forced you to update they even outlined it when you clicked accept on updating. and yes i know how nothing was programed for cell and remember when programs came out that were

Sony does force me to update, otherwise I can't use the PS3 for playing (online)games or play newer blurays.. In a lot of countries it's illegal to remove advertised functionalities from a device AFTER the sell, the biggest problem is that a lot of consumerprotection agencies don't care in this case as they don't understand what really has happened, if Sony had removed playing bluray movies or playing PS3 games then they would have done something.. I can't use the PS3 anymore for which I had bought it..

You are correct about the phasing out the Other OS, however, you are wrong about Sony not forcing consumers to update, if we want to play online we have to update and lose Other OS, so of course that is forcing.
