Sony's Copyright Protection Preventing Users Playing Legaly Backed Up Movies

Sony just keep doing it over and over again, one small problem after another, most recently the 3.41 HDD problem, it appears that another problem has arisen, a user by the name of AdorableNirvash on PS3Trophies has reported having playback problems whilst trying to watch a movie, on his PS3. He also show's a video from a Youtube user called alexsaeed8, who has the same problems, here is what alexsaeed8 said:
Recently Ps3 have come out with this new update that automatically downloads and installs this program called "Cinavia" which protects against piracy movies by analyzing the sound of the movie that is playing and compares that to the original version to see if it matches and based on that it will allow or doesn't allow the ps3 or BRDvd players to play the movie you will get 2 most common messages 1: it will say it can't play the movie because of a copy right violation. 2: it will say the audio for this movie has been mute and it wont play any more sound just the picture it all depends. so based on this information i have made a short video of how i been watching movies on my ps3 and by passing the cinavia technology. The only way i been able to watch movies is to speed it up by x1.5 or higher cinavia can't pick up the sound at that speed and its not so bad once you get use to it at least for now until someone come out with another solution.
And his video:
YouTube - Cinavia and Ps3 quick fix

AdorableNirvash has said that, it seems to be based on audio, but any attempts he has made to try and alter the audio, have given him the same response.

So if this isn't an isolated incident, then all of us who back up our movies, to play them on our PS3, will be affected, have any of you had this problem.

Edit:
It seems this problem has been around for a while, Afterdawn reported about Cinavia on March the 3rd, here
A short quote from their story:
FileShareFreak has a very interesting report out today about Cinavia DRM, which is a new audio watermarking technology that takes aim at pirates, and those trying to playback movie downloads via their PlayStation 3s.

The site says the watermarking works by "comparing the source of the audio to the format in which a movie was released (ie theatrical or commercial disc), and if the watermarked audio source detects a difference, the movie will either be mute (but most likely not play at all)."

To date, it has been found in a TS version of "The Wolfman" that has been popular via P2P and torrent sites.
Here is the Cinavia site:
http://www.cinavia.com/languages/english/index.html

Edit:
Another video with the same problem:
YouTube - Блокировка Cinavia.com
Whilst both the videos show pirated movies, it dosnt take from the fact that the "pirates" in the last video at least, would use the same methods we would use to legally back up our own DVD's, so this is in fact nulling our right to back up a movie and watch it on our PS3.

It doesn't seem to effect movies that are played from an external hard drive...

MohammadAG has confirmed on IRC that movies are working fine on his PS3, perhaps its an isolated incident, or only happens on certain movies.

EDIT:
Added information to main post, from that information, it seems that it is only associated with a select few movies.

I have had this problem but only with one movie so far, I haven't update am still on 3.15 so it cannot be anything to do with the lastest update.

I just ended up watching it on my HDD divx player. I wonder if it only happens if the machine is connected to the internet?

Apparently, this has been around since 3.10 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlaySta...ystem_software).

It seems that Cinavia is only present on Blu Ray players.

It mentions that it is only for Blu Ray protection, i guess it protects more than that.

From the Cinavia site:
Movies protected by Cinavia technology carry inaudible codes embedded by the copyright owner in their audio tracks that indicate where and how they are allowed to be used.
For example, movies that are being released to theaters can carry a Cinavia code that indicates that they are supposed to be duplicated by professional replicators and played back on professional projection equipment only.
Movies that are released on Blu-ray Disc, DVD, or by authorized download services, can carry a different Cinavia code, indicating that these movies are intended for use by consumers, but with limitations regarding whether or how they can be copied.
The Cinavia codes are designed to stay in the audio tracks wherever they appear, including after they are copied, converted to different formats, or captured by a camcorder.
That seems to say that, these codes will be able to pick up, if the movie is a copy or not, im not 100% sure though, but that's what i get from it.

Only thing i've seen cinavia effect is pirated movies with audio from cinema source, which is mainly what it was intended for anyway.

Cinavia was added on firmware 3.10, so if your copies of House worked after that, then you should be ok.
