okay, lemme get this straight. Does this thing emulate any firmware you put on the usb? If so, can we "update" to 3.42 with this and play online? or can we "downgrade" and install linux?
oh, and can we use this with the TI-84+ ported psgroove? Great job Jaicrab btw!!

We need to find a way to extract the data from PS3 update files. Would love to be able to go online while keeping my 3.41 firmware. Let's hope someone pulls through. Also, good job, always nice to see support in the home brew community for any console. Even if this is one small step, it will lead to larg accomplishments in the future.

CFW A permanent solution?
I'm a bit new to this scene and I am absorbing as much information as I possibly can. From what I've read, is the eventual goal here to replace the firmware on the PS3 permanently so we don't have to run the jailbreak each time we power on our console? And if so, can we use this firmware loader to trick the PSN into seeing the most up-to-date, valid firmware (when loaded via USB) allowing online gameplay?
Truly sorry if this has been answered somewhere else, thanks for any input. |

Actually for the first "no" it should be a yes. This doesnt emulate the firmware but rather relocate it. You could use this to get online IF you managed to get a dump of the latest firmware somehow and you could use this it (theoretically) to use the Install OtherOS function on 3.15 IF you could get a dump of it too. I dont really care about the ti84 or whatever other comments but just putting out there that your first "no" was wrongly issued.

So..........
What we need now is a PUP extractor right? is that what we need to find all the firmware files in an update?

To get an updated console's dev_flash, you need a PUP unpacker and a way to decrypt retail PKGs - and the key for that. In other words, not happening any time soon really.
